Settlement Close for DEA Agent Who Claims She was Fired for Being Gay

By Danny Fenster

Dawn Strobel was working as a DEA agent with a local High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area in 2006 in Indiana when a colleague outed her as gay to her boss, William Wells, according to the Post-Tribune newspaper.

Wells then told the Army Reserves, where Strobel had served since 2001. The Reserves honorably discharged her for being gay, according to a lawsuit Strobel filed last year after being fired from the DEA in 2009.

The newspaper reports that the suit appears to be close to being settled.

The paper reported that the government filed a status report in federal court in Hammond, Ind.,  saying that both sides had exchanged settlement papers and that Strobel had signed one of the papers. The amount of the settlement was not disclosed.

Strobel also claimed in her suit that she faced harassment at HIDTA and was stripped of her security clearance without being given an explanation why.

Clint Eastwood: “I Don’t Give a Crap if (Hoover) Was Gay or Not.”

Leonardo DiCaprio and director Clinton Eastwood for J. Edgar seem to be very circumspect when discussing FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover’s sexuality and their film on Hoover that is set to be released in November.

The film is called “J. Edgar.”

USA Today reports that in an interview in GQ magazine with Mark Harris, Eastwood says:

“I’d heard all the various controversies and gossip—that he wore dresses at parties. Everybody was saying, maybe he’s gay because he’d never gotten married. But that’s the way they did it back in the ’40s. If a guy didn’t get married, they always thought, Oh, there’s something wrong with him.”

Harris then asked: “But didn’t he have something approaching a long-term marriage with Clyde Tolson, associate director of the FBI (played by Armie Hammer)?’

“Well, they were inseparable pals,” says Eastwood. “Now, whether he was gay or not is gonna be for the audience to interpret. It could have been just a great love story between two guys. Or it could have been a great love story that was also a sexual story.”

DiCaprio explains, “What we’re saying is that he definitely had a relationship with Tolson that lasted for nearly fifty years. Neither of them married. They lived close to one another. They worked together every day. They vacationed together. And there was rumored to be more. There are definite insinuations of—well, I’m not going to get into where it goes, but…”

Interrupts Eastwood: “It’s not a movie about two gay guys. It’s a movie about how this guy manipulated everybody around him and managed to stay on through nine presidents. I mean, I don’t give a crap if he was gay or not.”

Adds Leo: “If I were a betting man, I actually don’t know what I would bet [regarding his sexuality].”

The FBI has assigned two agents to work full time in the New Orleans Police Department’s internal affairs unit, another move in a concerted effort to unearth corruption in the troubled department, the New Orleans Times-Picayune reported.

“It’s the right thing to do at the right time,” said David Welker, special agent in charge of the FBI’s New Orleans division, according to the paper. “This relationship is not designed to make the FBI the NOPD’s Big Brother.”

Police Superintendent Ronal Serpas applauded the move, saying:

“These two agents will work closely with us on systems of corruption, on civil rights investigations and to help in our in-service training programs.”

FBI Never Publicly Disclosed Saudi Couple Abandoning Home With New Car Right Before Sept. 11

Ex-Sen. Graham/meet the press

Is there even more about the Saudi connection to 9/11 that we didn’t know about?

Well, ex-Sen. Bob Graham, former co-chair of a Congressional inquiry after the September 11, 2001, seems to think so and is calling for the U.S. government to reopen its probe in wake of a news report that says a Saudia Arabian couple in Sarasota, Fla., abruptly abandon their home two weeks before the attacks, leaving behind a full refrigerator, clothes, and a new car, Reuters reported.

Reuters reported that the report was published by BrowardBulldog.org., a nonprofit Internet news site and was simultaneously published on the news website of the Miami Herald.

Reuters said the report, if true, indicates the FBI never disclosed the matter to the public or the 2002 joint Congressional intelligence committee investigating the attacks.

Reuters reported that the FBI office in Tampa issued a statement on Monday saying the Sarasota case was one of many leads that “were resolved and determined not to be related to any threat nor connected to the 9/11 plot.”
