Dawn Strobel was working as a DEA agent with a local High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area in 2006 in Indiana when a colleague outed her as gay to her boss, William Wells, according to the Post-Tribune newspaper.

Wells then told the Army Reserves, where Strobel had served since 2001. The Reserves honorably discharged her for being gay, according to a lawsuit Strobel filed last year after being fired from the DEA in 2009.

The newspaper reports that the suit appears to be close to being settled.

The paper reported that the government filed a status report in federal court in Hammond, Ind.,  saying that both sides had exchanged settlement papers and that Strobel had signed one of the papers. The amount of the settlement was not disclosed.

Strobel also claimed in her suit that she faced harassment at HIDTA and was stripped of her security clearance without being given an explanation why.
