John Boles to Head Up FBI’s Norfolk, Va. Office

John Boles has been named head of the FBI’s Norfolk, Va., office, the agency announced Friday.

Boles, who last served as special assistant to the National Security Branch (NSB) executive assistant director and as section chief of the NSB Executive Staff Section, joined the bureau in 1995. He was first assigned to Sacramento.

In 2003, he was appointed assistant legal attaché in Kiev, Ukraine. Boles was responsible for all FBI programs in Ukraine and Belarus.

In 2006, he transferred to the St. Louis Division and was selected as supervisory special agent. He oversaw the Joint Terrorism Task Force and the International Terrorism squad. He also served as the SWAT coordinator.

Boles later became   assistant special agent in charge in the San Diego Division, responsible for  program management, oversight of the white-collar and cyber crime programs, and other administrative duties.

Before joining the bureau, he  served as a cryptologic technician in the U.S. Navy for five years.
