GOP Leaders Urge Mike Rogers to Stay in Politics, Not Take on Top FBI Job

Rep. Mike Rogers is believed to be among President Obama’s top choices for the next FBI director.

But senior Republicans have other plans for him, The Hill reports.

GOP leaders want the seven-term Michigan Republican, who is backed by the FBI Agents Association, to stay in the legislative branch, either to maintain his position as head of the Intelligence Committee or to run for the Senate seat that will be vacated by Democrat Carl Levin, The Hill reported.

“What I do know about him, I like,” said Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), the ranking member on the Judiciary panel that will oversee the FBI nomination later this year, said. “But I’d rather have him run for the U.S. Senate. How do you get 51 senators? One at a time.”
