FBI Investigates Threats Against Family of U.S. Soldier Who Was Freed from Taliban Captivity

The parents of Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl have received threats since their son was freed from five years of Taliban captivity in exchange for the release of five detainees at Guantanamo Bay, CNN reports.

The FBI is investigating but wouldn’t elaborate on the seriousness of the threats.

“We are working jointly with our state and local partners and taking each threat seriously,” FBI Special Agent William Facer told CNN in an e-mail on Saturday.

Since his release, some in the military have claimed that troops have been killed while searching for Bergdahl.

The military said there’s no evidence to support that.

Bergdahl went missing in June 2009 as a member of the 1st Battalion, 501st Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division.
