Agents Slapped on Wrist for Placing College Student in Holding Cell for 5 Days with No Water, Food

DEA agents who left a 23-year-old college student in a holding cell for five days without food or water for allegedly possessing marijuana received a slap on the wrist.

The agents, who said they forgot about Daniel Chong, were reprimanded or received short suspensions, even though the illegally detained student nearly died and drank his own urine to stave off hydration, The Los Angeles Times reports.

The Justice Department told Congress that “what happened to Mr. Chong is unacceptable” and that “the DEA’s failure to impose significant discipline on these employees further demonstrates the need for a systemic review of DEA’s disciplinary process.”

Chong was left to die, his hands handcuffed behind his back in a windowless cell. Someone even turned off the light halfway through the ordeal.

Chong was hospitalized for four days and sued the DEA, winning a $4.1 million settlement.

A former FBI agent who was angry about police brutality and said she was running for president, is expected in court today after a bizarre rampage that took her to the headquarters of the NSA and CIA.

Tunisia Davis was arrested late Thursday and placed in the custody of U.S. Marshals after authorities said she drove to the main gate of the CIA headquarters in Langley, Va., and managed to get past one officer before another stopped her.

Davis also arrived at the door of the NSA and told NSA police she “wanted to know what they would do if she showed up,” NBC reported.

It’s unclear whether Davis made clear she was a former FBI agent.

Details are still emerging about her past with the FBI.

An alarming spike in sexual abuse by CBP agents has been recorded, and officials are scurrying to find out why, the Daily Mail reports.

The agency’s former head of internal affairs, James Tomsheck, who handled sexual assault investigations, said there was a “spike” of more than 35 cases involving agents between 2012 and 2014.

Tomsheck believes the increase was caused by the lack of a polygraph tests administered to nearly 15,000 new recruits between 2006 and 2012.

“A problem that I believed was a significant and serious problem was perhaps even worse than I thought it was,” Tomsheck said. “I believe they were persons who had likely offended before but their acts have gone undetected.”

In one case, a Border Patrol agent is accused of brutally raping an undocumented immigrant and her two daughters near the border fence before killing himself.

One of the two gunmen who opened fire at a contest involving cartoon drawings of the Prophet Muhammad was previously under investigation by the FBI, the Wall Street Journal reports.

In fact, Elton Simpson was convicted of lying to the FBI after prosecutors alleged he planned to join Islamic militant groups in Africa.

According to the FBI, an informant recorded conversations between Simpson and several associates in 2009 about his desire to join Islamic militant groups.

“It’s time to go to Somalia, brother,” he said in one taped conversation with associates, in May 2009, according to the filings. “We gonna make it to the battlefield,” he added. “Its time to roll.”

Both shooters were killed.

Authorities identified the other alleged shooter as Nadir Soofi.
