FBI agents met with a leader of the takeover of a wildlife refuge in Oregon on Friday in hopes to ending the armed occupation, but the meeting only lasted a few minutes and appeared to be unproductive, The Seattle Times reports.

The meeting was with Ammon Bundy, a leader of the occupation that began on Jan. 2.

Oregon Gov. Kate Brown has criticized the FBI’s response to the takeover, which has been to keep a distance and allow the occupation to continue.

The FBI responded that its response has been “deliberate and measured as we seek a peaceful resolution.”

Bundy said he was upset that FBI agents wouldn’t meet face-to-face

“I really don’t think at this point having a phone conversation here … would be beneficial,” Bundy said.
