Worried about an outbreak of violence during the Republican National Convention in Cleveland, local and federal law enforcement investigators have begun visiting the homes of local activists to gather information on planned demonstrations.

Cleveland.com reports that activists felt the “door-knock” visits were intimidating.

An FBI spokesman for the local branch called the door knocking “community outreach” to ensure next month’s GOP convention is a “safe and secure” event.

About a dozen activists have reported being visited by teams of local and federal law enforcement officials this week.

Did Omar Mateen, the man responsible for the Orlando nightclub massacre, have gay lovers?

Since the shooting that left 49 people dead, people have claimed Mateen had gay relationships and used gay dating apps.

But so far, the FBI has found no evidence to support those claims, the Los Angeles Times reports.

Investigators have discredited claims by some people who alleged Mateen had sex with men.

To look into the claims, the FBI searched Mateen’s electronic devices and found no photographs, text messages, gay pornography or smartphone apps to support the claims that he had a secret gay life.

During the massacre, Mateen said he was avenging the bombings in the Middle East.

Defense lawyers for the protesters have asked a judge to order the release of investigative records involving the FBI’s alleged misconduct.

The occupation of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge last 41 days and led to numerous charges against the protesters.

The cost to taxpayers to provide Secret Service protection to presidential candidates has skyrocketed this year.

The Secret Service has already spent more than $200 million to protect the candidates, CNBC reports.

By contrast, the Secret Service spent $113 million for presidential candidate protection in 2012 and about $85 million in 2008.

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has come under fire because he took Secret Service agents with hi overseas to celebrate the opening of a golf course this week.

Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders also has caught criticism for continuing to use Secret Service agents even after his campaign appears to be over.
