A Border Patrol agent who was killed in southwest Texas was likely “ambushed” and beaten to death by rocks, according to the president of the National Border Patrol Council.

Another agent was seriously injured and remains in the hospital following the attack on Sunday.

Rogelio Martinez, 36, and his partner were patrolling the Big Bend Sector when they came under attack by a group of illegal immigrant, Brandon Judd, president of the labor union, said.

“I have been told by several agents that it was a grisly scene, and that his injuries were very extensive,” Judd said Monday in a phone interview with The Washington Post. “We believe he was struck in the head with rocks, or multiple rocks.”

Both agents received blunt force trauma to the head.

“There were no indications the agents fired their weapons,” Judd told Fox News.

The FBI is now investigating the assault.

Details remain murky because Customs and Border Protection has yet to disclose what happened.

The agents were patrolling near Interstate 10, in the Van Horn Station area, when they were alerted to illegal immigrant traffic.

Jack Ruby, who would shoot and kill Lee Harvey Oswald, told an FBI informant to “watch the fireworks” just hours before the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, according to newly released JFK files.

The interaction between Ruby and FBI informant Bob Vanderslice wasn’t relayed to the FBI until March 1977, nearly 14 years after Kennedy was shot, the Independent reports

“The informant stated that on the morning of the assassination, Ruby contacted him and asked if he would ‘like to watch the fireworks’,” the FBI record stated.

“He was with Jack Ruby and standing at the corner of the Postal Annex Building facing the Texas School Book Depository Building, at the time of the shooting.

“Immediately after the shooting, Ruby left and headed toward the area of the Dallas Morning News Building, without saying anything to him.”

Ruby died in jail in 1967.

FBI Releases Mysterious Letter Reportedly from Notorious Hijacker D.B. Cooper

The mystery man known as D.B. Cooper sent a letter to newspapers after he parachuted from a plane in 1971 with $200,000 in ransom money.

The letter was among newly released documents about the hijacking case, which marks the 46th anniversary this week, Fox News reports

“I knew from the start that I wouldn’t be caught,” the typewritten letter reads.

“I didn’t rob Northwest Orient because I thought it would be romantic, heroic or any of the other euphemisms that seem to attach themselves to situations of high risk,” he continued.

He added: “I’m no modern-day Robin Hood. Unfortunately (I) do have only 14 months to live.”

Tom Colbert, a Los Angeles TV film producer, said he believes the letter is legitimate.

“We have no doubt it’s from Cooper and the reason is that he cites he left no fingerprints on the plane,” he said. “The reason that’s critical is because it’s absolutely true.”

Cooper, who is not the real name of the suspect, released passengers and crew members and then ordered the pilots to fly to Mexico. While in the sky, Cooper parachuted out the back door over Washington state.

The FBI ended its investigation last year without identifying the hijacker, acknowledging that suspect may have died during the treacherous jump.

Special Counsel Robert Mueller has requested documents from the Justice Department as part of his investigation into possible collusion between President Trump’s campaign and Russia.

Among the documents are those related to Trump firing then-FBI Director James Comey and to Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ decision to recuse himself from the Russian probe, ABC News reports.

Mueller’s team is interested in the interactions between Justice Department officials and the White House.

Mueller is trying to determine whether Trump or any other administration official wielded improper influence over an ongoing investigation.

Sessions said last week that he is willing to cooperate with the investigation.

The ATF and FBI have joined the hunt for a suspect in the fatal shooting of a rookie cop in Pennsylvania.

An arrest warrant has been issued for 29-year-old Rahmael Sal Holt, who is accused of killing New Kensington Officer Brian Shaw during a traffic stop Friday night, KDKA/AP reports.

Holt has a lengthy criminal record, ranging from assault to carrying a firearm without a license.

The 25-year-old rookie officer was chasing Holt on foot when the cop was shot in the chest.

The FBI, U.S. Marshall’s Service and ATF contributed a combined $40,000 in reward money for the capture of Holt.

The FBI has taken over an investigation into the death of a Border Patrol agent in Texas Big Bend area, where his partner also was seriously injured Sunday.

A Border Patrol spokesman declined to divulge what caused the injuries but said the FBI and other authorities are looking for potential suspects and witnesses.

Agent Rogelio Martinez, 36, and his Big Bend partner “were responding to activity while on patrol near Interstate 10, in the Van Horn Station area,” Customs and Border Patrol announced Sunday

Martinez’s partner called for assistance, saying both of them were injured.

Agents who responded provided immediate medical care and transported both agents to a local hospital.

Martinez, who had been a Border Patrol agent since August 2013, was later pronounced dead, and his partner, whose name has not been released, was still in the hospital Sunday in serious condition.

President Trump responded in a tweet Sunday night, renewing his call for a border wall with Mexico.
