Suspects Thwart FBI Hostage Rescue Operation with a Swarm of Drones

By Steve Neavling

FBI agents trying to rescue a hostage last year were thwarted when they spotted a swarm of drones that suspects were using to keep an eye on the raid.

The encounter involved  “high-speed low passes at the agents in the observation post to flush them,” reported Defense One’s Patrick Tucker, citing FBI chief Joe Mazel, head of the bureau’s operational technology law division, who was speaking at a conference this week.

Authorities wouldn’t disclose the location, saying the incident remains “law enforcement-sensitive.” But Defense One indicated the encounter happened “on the outskirts of a large U.S. city.”

The FBI said the suspects likely carried the drones in backpacks and then streamed the video on YouTube for the criminals to monitor.

Comey Slams Giuliani for Comparing FBI to Nazi Stormtroopers

Former FBI Director James Comey sharply criticized new Trump attorney, Rudolph Giuliani, for comparing the New York FBI to Nazi “stormtroopers.”

In a tweet Wednesday afternoon, Comey said the FBI agents are “just a group of people devoted to the rule of law and the truth.”

“Our country would be better off if our leaders tried to be like them, rather than comparing them to Nazis,” Comey tweeted.

Giuliani made the comparison during an interview with Fox News personality Sean Hannity, referring to the raid on the office, hotel room and home of President Trump’s longtime lawyer Michael Cohen. Agents were searching for, among others things, records related to Cohen’s $130,000 payment to Stormy Daniels.

“The settlement payment — which is a very regular thing for lawyers to do — the question there was, the only possible violation there would be was it a campaign finance violation? Which usually results in a fine, by the way, not this big stormtroopers coming in and breaking down his apartment and breaking down his office,” Giuliani told Hannity.

Undercover ATF Agent Critically Injured in Chicago Shooting

An ATF FBI agent was in critical condition this morning after being shot while working undercover in a joint operation with Chicago police on the city’s South Side.

The agent was shot by an unknown gunman around 3:15 a.m. and rushed to Stroger Hospital

ATF agents have partnered with Chicago police to crack down on the proliferation of gang-related rifle shootings in that part of the city.

Gang members with rifles have shot more than 14o people – 50 of them fatally, between the fall of 2016 and the end of 2017, according to the Chicago Tribune.

It wasn’t immediately clear whether Friday’s shooting involved a rifle.

The identity of the ATF agent was not disclosed as of 8 a.m. on Friday.

USA Today to Mueller: Force Trump’s Testimony with Subpoena After He Lied about Hush Money

President Trump

President Trump’s stunning admission that he reimbursed his attorney for a $130,000 hush payment to porn actress Stormy Daniels is “monumental” because Trump acknowledged he lied a month ago when he denied any knowledge of the payout, the USA Today wrote in an editorial Thursday night.

The lie “undermines his credibility at a time when special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation is reaching a crucial juncture.”

“The Daniels disclosure exposes Trump’s willingness to lie publicly about pending legal matters,” the editorial board wrote. “(Presumably, he is coming clean now because he knows that information seized by authorities from attorney Michael Cohen will reveal the Daniels-related reimbursements.) That only reinforces the urgent need to have him testify under oath in the Russia matter.”

The USA Today argues Mueller should subpoena Trump if he refuses to testify, noting that President Clinton relented and finally testified following a subpoena.
