White Supremacist Sentenced in Plot to Kill African-Americans Including Obama

Daniel Cowart

A Tennessee White Supremacist who planned to go on a killing spree of African-Americans and kill Barack Obama during his campaign for the presidency is off to prison for 14 years.

Daniel Cowart, 22, of Bells, Tenn. was sentenced Friday in Tennessee after he pleaded guilty earlier in the year to a host of charges including conspiracy, threatening to kill and inflict bodily harm upon a major candidate for the office of President of the United States, interstate transportation of a short-barreled shotgun and interstate transportation of a firearm for the purpose of committing a felony, the Justice Department said.

Cowart  admitted to conspiring with Paul Schlesselman of West Helena, Ark., to go on the killing spree. Schlesselman was sentenced to 10 years in prison.

“Threats of violence fueled by bigotry and hate have no place in the United States of America, and they will not be tolerated,” said Thomas E. Perez, Assistant Attorney General for the Civil Rights Division. “Although the heroic intervention of law enforcement spared us from a tragedy, this conspiracy and its associated crimes demanded a severe sentence. The sentence imposed constitutes serious punishment for a serious crime.”

Oops! President Obama Offends DEA Agents in Drug War Comments

WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama insulted — albeit inadvertently — the folks at the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration today by mentioning the FBI instead of their agency in remarks about the war on drugs.

At a town hall meeting in Washington aired on MTV, the president told a group of young people that his administration is serious about “federal drug enforcement.”

But, he added, “we have to figure out who is it we’re going after because we’ve got limited resources. So decisions that are made by the Justice Department or FBI about prosecuting drug kingpins versus somebody with some small amount, those decisions are made based on how can we best enforce the laws that are on the books.”

Some DEA agents were insulted, saying the DEA is the lead agency on the war on drugs, not the FBI.

“That just goes to show his lack of knowledge,” said one DEA agent, who spoke on the condition of anonymity. “Again, it shows me his inadequate knowledge of drug law enforcement. He has no clue.”

They may be brothers, but their attorneys seem to be mapping out conflicting strategies.

Robert Blogojevich, brother of ex-Ill. Gov. Rod Blagojevich, has filed a motion to keep FBI recordings from airing in their upcoming public corruption trial, the Chicago Tribune reports.

Brother Rod has indicated that he has nothing to hide and wants the jury to hear everything. They are charged with trading favors for campaign money and selling the Senate seat vacated by Barack Obama.

The Tribune reports that the attorney for Robert Blagojevich claims the FBI had no probable cause to make the recordings, and that there had been no indication that Robert traded favors for campaign contributions. Robert ran his brother’s campaign fund in 2008.

“Evidence of Robert Blagojevich soliciting campaign contributions on behalf of his brother, without proof of an explicit quid pro quo, is not remotely criminal, but, rather, exemplifies the American political process,” Robert’s attorney Michael Ettinger wrote, according to the Tribune.

The criminal case against ex-Ill. Gov. Rod Blagojevich can only get more interesting.

In the latest move, his lawyers have asked for the FBI interviews of then President-elect Barack Obama, his chief of staff, Rahm Emanuel, White House adviser Valerie Jarrett and others, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.

The lawyers in a court filing also asked for information regarding an FBI interview with the first lady, but the Sun-Times reported that a source said the FBI never interviewed her.

Is Secret Service Spreading Itself Too Thin?

Besides protecting the president, the Secret Service has long investigated counterfeiting and other financial crimes. Is the agency spreading itself too thin? Some think so.

Boston Globe
WASHINGTON – The unprecedented number of death threats against President Obama, a rise in racist hate groups, and a new wave of antigovernment fervor threaten to overwhelm the US Secret Service, according to government officials and reports, raising new questions about the 144-year-old agency’s overall mission.

The Secret Service is tracking a far broader range of possible threats to the nation’s leaders, the officials said, even as it also investigates financial crimes such as counterfeiting as part of its original mandate.

The new demands are leading some officials, both inside and outside the agency, to raise the possibility of the service curtailing or dropping its role in fighting financial crime to focus more on protecting leaders and their families from assassination attempts and thwarting terrorist plots aimed at high-profile events.

Agents have seen it all when it comes to hiding drugs like heroin. Here’s the latest hide-and-seek game where the dealers lost.

BY Samuel Goldsmith
New York DAILY NEWS
NEW YORK –– They don’t stock this option at your local Build-A-Bear store.

Authorities announced Saturday a massive heroin bust in the Bronx, where dealers were moving millions of dollars in dope inside Build-A-Bear dolls.

The drugs were packaged in tiny glassine bags branded with names like Barack Obama, Swine Flu and Crime 360, a nod to a detective series on A&E.

“The agents walk in and there’s heroin and all the dime bags and the Build-A-Bears just sitting there,” said Erin Mulvey, spokesman for the Drug Enforcement Administration.

State, local and federal law enforcement officers seized 33 pounds of heroin with a street value of about $33 million and arrested 12 people on Friday. The suspects were waiting to be arraigned late Saturday.

Law Enforcement Pleasantly Surprised: No Inauguration Related Arrests

WASHINGTON – My what a difference four years makes.
At the last presidential inauguration in 2005, when President Bush was being sworn in for a second term, about 20 people were arrested. What’s more, D.C. police reported that 10 of its officers were injured after clashing with anti-war demonstrators.
Tuesday was a much different story.
Federal and local law enforcement in Washington said there were no inauguration-related arrests, which surprised many considering the crowd. Estimates were as high as about 2 million.
Paul Bresson, an FBI spokesman, called the no-arrest event “a very good day for law enforcement”. D.C. police and U.S. Secret Service echoed similar sentiments Wednesday afternoon.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday the Secret Service unveiled its much anticipated new armored presidential limousine.
“Although many of the vehicles’ security enhancements cannot be discussed, it is safe to say that this car’s security and coded communications systems make it the most technologically advanced protection vehicle in the world,” Nicholas Trotta, Assistant Director for the Office of Protective Operations, said in a prepared statement before the car was unveiled.

Feds Say White Supremacist Hate Talk Out There About Obama Inauguration

With an event of this magnitude, you can never underestimate potential problems. And one of those potential problems is the white supremacists, who have been spewing hate ever since Obama launched his presidential campaign. Inauguration or not, that isn’t expected to change anytime soon.

By Richard Sisk and James Gordon Meek
New York Daily News
Washington — Federal agents are on “a higher state of alert” because of hate talk by white supremacists about Barack Obama’s inauguration, officials told the Daily News on Tuesday.
“That chatter is out there, no doubt about it,” one senior FBI agent in Washington said this afternoon, adding that no credible plots against the 56th Presidential Inauguration have been detected.
The Bureau has ordered agents in all 56 field offices to “shake the trees” in advance of the Jan. 20 swearing-in of the 44th President, who will become the first African-American to occupy the Oval Office.
