Investigators have struggled for two years to stop an online, underground marketplace from selling more than $1 billion in cocaine, heroin, ecstasy and other illicit drugs in exchange for a virtual currency called Bitcoin, The Verge reports.

But now it appears the FBI has snagged the mastermind, Ross Ulbricht, who is being charged with narcotics trafficking, money laundering and computer hacking.

The site, called Silk Road, was only accessible through a special network.

According to The Verge, law enforcement bought more than 100 packages of drugs and had them sampled.

“Samples of these purchases have been laboratory-tested, and have typically shown high purity levels of the drug the item was advertised to be on Silk Road, FBI Agent Christopher Tarbell told The Verge.

A 20-year-old Romanian hacker is suspected of breaking into several NASA and Pentagon servers and posting confidential data from the servers on his blog, the Associated Press reports. Romanian officials are investigating the youth, officials said on Tuesday, in cooperation with the FBI.

Razvan Manole Cernaianu, reportedly an information technology student, allegedly offered to sell an app which showed how he broke into the servers as well.

Cernaianu “used sophisticated hacking tools to gain unauthorized access to government and commercial systems,” the US Embassy in Bucharest said in a statement.

The FBI arrested a  Connecticut man  Tuesday in connection with a cyberattack on the website of KISS frontman Gene Simmons, NewsCore reports. Kevin George Poe is believed to be a part of the computer hacking collective Anonymous.

Poe was released on a $10,000 bond after being taken into custody without incident, according to the report. Poe took part in a distributed denial of service (DDos) attack in October of 2010 against the rock group frontman’s website GeneSimmons.com, which caused it to crash.

“Our legal team and the FBI have been on the case and we have found a few, shall we say ‘adventurous’ young people, who feel they are above the law,” Simmons wrote on his website.
