The FBI arrested a county sheriff in Indiana on charges that he paid a prostitute $300 for oral sex and then urged her to hide the evidence, the Courier-Journal reports.

The arrest of Sheriff Danny Rodden comes after he was indicted July 23 on charges of lying to federal agents and counseling the destruction of evidence.

Investigators said Rodden paid for the sex act in a Louisville hotel.

Rodden, 60, also is accused of giving the prostitute a badge and sheriff’s department apparel so she could receive discounts at hotels.

“It is a sad day for Clark County. It is a sad day for all elected and appointed officials who do their best to adhere to the high standards expected of those of us who serve the public,” said U.S. Attorney Joe Hogsett, who announced the charges.

Friends of the alleged Boston Marathon bomber are accused of dumping a backpack belonging to Dzhokhar Tsarnaev in an attempt to hide evidence against him, Reuters reports.

When the FBI approached the friends about the backpack, they “simultaneously” responded that it had been thrown into a dumpster, according to testimony against one of the friends, Azamat Tazhayakov, who has been charged with interfering with the investigation.

The friends told the FBI that the backpack was removed from Tsarnaev’s room three days after the attack.

They told me simultaneously that the backpack had been placed in the dumpster and that a refuse truck had removed the dumpster from the location the previous day,” FBI Special Agent John Walker said.

The backpack was later recovered in a landfill. Inside were fireworks with the gunpowder removed, a spiral notebook and a jar of Vaseline.

The DEA is refusing to answer questions about three of its agents who are still on the federal payroll despite their alleged involvement in a prostitution scandal in Colombia, the Washington Examiner reports.

The accusations are serious. DEA agents are accused of paying for a prostitute for a Secret Service supervisor and obstructing the investigation by lying and destroying evidence, the Examiner wrote.

“And they are still on the job a year later,” state Rep. Frank Wolf, R-VA said. “That’s just not a good thing.”

The scandal broke in April 2012 when a dozens Secret Service agents were in Cartagena, Columbia, to prepare for a trip by President Obama.
