The federal agencies in charge of keeping America safe from a terrorist attack said there is no credible threat to America’s homeland on today’s 14th anniversary of Sept. 11.

The Washington Times reports that directors of the FBI, CIA and the National Security Agency said Thursday that they have no reason to believe a terrorist attack will occur today, despite increasing concerns over ISIS and al Qaeda.

The directors made the statement at an intelligence community conference in Washington, saying improvements in communications between the agencies have greatly reduced the threat of terrorism on the homeland.

“Compared to where we were 14 years ago, that intelligence work is light years ahead of where it was,” CIA Director John Brennan said. “And, in addition, strengthening the defenses of this country from 2001 to now — this is a much more difficult environment for terrorist groups to operate in.”

The FBI issued a strong warning Sunday that ISIS and other terrorist groups want to target military members where they live in the U.S., ABC News reports.

The FBI and Homeland Security issued a join intelligence bulletin, urging military members to remove anything from their social media accounts that would bring attention to extremists or reveal their identities

“The FBI and DHS recommend that current and former members of the military review their online social media accounts for any information that might serve to attract the attention of ISIL [ISIS] and its supporters,” the federal bulletin sent to law enforcement agencies said, advising that troops “routinely exercise operational security in their interactions online.”

The FBI said fresh intelligence suggests that ISIS wants to encourage sympathizers to attack American military members in the U.S.

“The FBI recently received reporting indicating individuals overseas are spotting and assessing like-minded individuals who are willing and capable of conducting attacks against current and former U.S.-based members of the United States military,” the bulletin said.

FBI, Homeland Security Warn of ISIS-Inspired Attacks in U.S. Following Airstrikes in Syria

The FBI and Homeland Security are warning that ISIS-inspired Americans or visitors may try to launch a domestic attack in retaliation for U.S. airstrikes against extremists in Syria, CBS News reports.

The agencies issued bulletins that urged law enforcement to “be vigilant.” ISIS and other terrorist groups have been recruiting Americans. Attorney General Eric Holder said the U.S. needs a new approach.

“It will be focused on people who have terrorist connections and come up with new ways in which information is shared between INTERPOL members that, frankly, don’t exist now,” he said. “We have red notices that we use for people who are charged with crimes. But we’re gonna come up with a new kind of notice that deals with people who are suspected of engaging in terrorist activities.”
