When the FBI joined the investigation and helped find him this month, Hernandez was 18 years old.

The FBI is helping search for a 6-year-old girl who disappeared from her Washington state home this weekend, The Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.

The parents, who took FBI-administered polygraph tests, said they waited a day – Sunday – to report Jenise Wright missing because she often wanders off in the fenced-in mobile home park in Bremerton, across from Seattle on the west side of Puget sound.

“We are harnessing all this manpower and expertise because we are covering all the bases,” Kitsap County Sheriff’s Deputy Scott Wilson said. “We only get one chance to do this right the first time.”

Local and state authorities also are searching.

“Anything is possible,” he said. “Children do really surprising things. She could be almost anywhere.”

The FBI plans to interview a 12-year-old boy who went missing before turning up in the basement of his home in a strange case that has gotten international attention, the Free Press reports.

The forensic interview of Charlie Bothuell is scheduled for today.

“Based on the outcome of this interview, the Detroit Police Department may be submitting a package to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s office as early as Wednesday afternoon,” according to a statement from Detroit police. “For the time being, Charlie is currently staying with relatives in an undisclosed location.”

After Bothuell was found in the basement of his home Wednesday, suspicions fell on the father and stepmother, who allegedly told the boy to hide in the basement and “not to come out, no matter what he hears.”

The son also told authorities that his father tried to drive a PVC pipe into his chest.

The FBI is offering a cell phone app for parents in the event that their child ends up missing.

WCCO reports that the bureau is encouraging parents to download the Child ID App  to expedite the release of information to the public.

The app allows parents to send photos and information about their child so it can be transmitted publicly.

“If your child were to go missing, with one push of a button, this information is transmitted quicker than you can dial 911,” said FBI Special Agent Timothy Gallagher.

Is Etan Patz Alive? FBI Asks American in Europe If He went Missing in 1979

Etan Patz, whose 1979 disappearance shocked New Yorkers, was declared dead in 2001, and the 6-year-old’s confessed killer was charged.

But the New York Daily News reports that the FBI asked an American living in Europe if he was Patz.

“Obviously, I was surprised,” the man, who asked not to be identified, said. “I chuckled. I thought it was funny because it was so unlikely that it would be possible that I could be this person. I had no idea who Etan Patz was.”

In fact, the man is 30. Patz would be 41.

It remains unclear why the FBI sought out the man living in Europe.

FBI and NYPD May Soon Finally Close 33 Year Old Case of Missing Child Etan Patz

One of the first missing kids featured on a milk carton may see justice after all, though 33 years after his disappearance and long after he was assumed dead, it may be small comfort to his family.

Pedro Hernandez was picked up by local cops in Camden, N.J., yesterday, and “made statements to NYPD detectives implicating himself in the disappearance and death of Etan Patz,” reports the NY Daily News.

It seemed the long forgotten case of Etan Patz, the Brooklyn 6 year old who went missing in 1979, was suddenly reopened then shut again in April, when the NYPD and FBI gutted a SoHo basement looking for remains, but found nothing.

Othniel Miller, who worked in that basement and knew Patz from the neighborhood, said he was “deeply saddened” by the boy’s disappearance. His lawyer protested that Miller’s reputation had been “dragged through the mud” by the reopened case.

A 2004 New York civil case declared prime-suspect and pedophile Jose Ramos responsible for Etan’s death, though he is not serving time for this case. Ramos, now 68, is due to be released in November from a Pennsylvania prison where he is doing time for molesting two boys. He previously admitted to raping a young boy who looked like Etan on the day he disappeared, but insisted he let the boy go.

The disappearance of 6-year- old New York boy Etan Patz 33 years ago has never been resolved nor forgotten.

The New York Times reports 40 police and FBI investigators swarmed a SoHo art storage space on Thursday morning, ready to disassemble the 13 by 62 foot space brick by brick in search of the boy’s remains. The flurry follows release of a search warrant in response to the reaction of a cadaver-sniffing dog in the long-observed storage space.

“Obviously we’re hopeful that we’ll find evidence in the disappearance of Etan Patz,” F.B.I. spokesman Tim Flannelly told the NY Times. “But the take-away of this is that we’re committed to these types of investigations, as is the N.Y.P.D. And we’re trying to bring closure to the investigation and the family, and we’re not going to be frustrated by time.”

At the time of Patz’s disappearance in 1979 there was a world-wide hunt, and he was one of the first missing children to be displayed on milk cartons.
