Hoping to combat China’s role in the drug trade, the DEA is planning to open a new office in Southern China, and a top administrator is visiting the country next week.

The visit will be the first in more than a decade for the DEA, the Associated Press reports.

DEA Acting Administrator Chuck Rosenberg plans to visit Beijing, Guangzhou and Hong Kong next week.

China invited the DEA to help crack down on the increasing sale of synthetic drugs to the U.S.

If all goes as planned, two special agents will occupy a new office in the city of Guangzhou.

“Intelligence and investigative information have shown that Guangzhou has strong ties to international drug trafficking organizations operating in China and elsewhere,” Russell Baer, a DEA special agent in Washington, said in an email. “These criminal groups in Guangzhou utilize trade-based money laundering schemes to legitimize drug profits, use the port facilities as a transit point to ship illegal narcotics, and purchase synthetic drugs along with precursor chemicals.”

A man who rammed a dump truck into the gates of the FBI building in Pittsburgh was looking for emotional help, family and neighbors told WTAE.

“He’s been crying out for help, a lot of help, and he asked me if I could find someone for him to talk to,” a neighbor said of Thomas Richard Ross.

The neighbor added that Ross was taking painkillers after he had fallen off a roof more than 20 years ago.

“I don’t know what kind of pills they gave him but he got addicted and he’s still in pain,” the neighbor said, adding Ross had been paranoid the government was after him.

His son, Tommy Jr., also said his father had problems with drugs.

The boost in oil production in North Dakota has brought a lot of wealth – and crime – to the state.

The FBI is responding to an uptick in crime by opening an office in the state’s oil country, The Hill reports.

The bureau plans to fully staff the Willinston office later this year.

The office will be a “resident agency” of the FBI’s Minneapolis division.

“The office in Williston is a welcomed addition to our presence in North Dakota,” Richard Thornton, special agent in charge of the Minneapolis division that oversees the Williston office, said in a statement.

“The opening of this office is in response to the unprecedented growth in population and economic activity associated with the oil exploration and production in the Bakken region and the corresponding increase in criminal activity,” he said. “The FBI will be in a better position to effectively address these issues in this region of North Dakota through this new office.”

Robert Zickella, 49, is accused of calling the FBI in St. George at least 112 times over several days, threatening agents and threatening to blow up the bureau’s office, the Salt Lake Tribune reports.

Zickella is being held in the Purgatory Correctional Facility on a $10,000 bond

What remains unclear is why Zickella threatened the FBI and hounded agents.
