The FBI’s discovery of deleted surveillance video from the basement of a Penn State University frat house has prompted a slew of new charges tied to the hazing death of 19-year-old Timothy Piazza.

Prosecutors on Monday charged 12 more members of the now-defunct Beta Theta Pi fraternity, including Braxton Becker, 20, who is accused of deleting the video recovered by the FBI, the Philadelphia Inquirer reports

According to the new footage, Piazza was a fraternity pledge in February when he consumed 18 alcoholic drinks in one hour and 22 minutes.

Five fraternity members – Ryan Liam Burke, 21, Aidan O’Brien, 20, Jonathan Kanzler, 19, Joshua Kurczewski, 19, and Bo Han Song, 19, were charged with felony aggravated assault and misdemeanor involuntary manslaughter. They’ve also been charged with misdemeanor counts of simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, hazing and furnishing liquor to a minor.

Others charged with misdemeanor hazing and furnishing alcohol to minors include oseph Ems, Brian Gelb, Patrick Jackson, Reggie Goeke, Donald Prior and Mike Fernandez.

Braxton Becker, whose previous charge was dismissed, now faces a  misdemeanor counts tampering with evidence, obstructing administration of law and hindering apprehension.

Fraternity members told State College police Detective David Scicchitano that the surveillance camera in the basement wasn’t working. But the FBI was able to recover the deleted footage.

Family of Joe Paterno Commissioned Study That Suggests Late Coach Did Nothing Wrong

The family of Joe Paterno commissioned a report that suggests the Penn State University coach did nothing wrong and was the victim of a rushed investigation, CBS News and the Associated Press report.

The report argues that the probe into the handling of the Jerry Sandusky child sex abuse scandal, which was led by former FBI director Louis Freeh, contends the evidence against Paterno is not supported by the facts, the CBS News and AP wrote.

One of the experts used in the report, Former U.S. Attorney General Dick Thornburgh, said the Freeh investigation was incomplete and flawed.

Freeh’s report reached “inaccurate and unfounded findings related to Mr. Paterno and its numerous process-oriented deficiencies was a rush to injustice and calls into question” the investigation’s credibility.

Freeh defended the probe.

“I stand by our conclusion that four of the most powerful people at Penn State failed to protect against a child sexual predator harming children for over a decade,” he told the AP.

Louie Freeh Report: Penn State’s Top Leaders Covered Up for Sandusky for 14 Years

In a damning report that confirms what many suspected, an independent investigation, led by ex-FBI Director Louis Freeh found that top leaders at Pennsylvania State University, including legendary football coach Joe Paterno, tried covering up Jerry Sandusky’s sexual abuse of children for 14 years.

The findings of the panel’s 162-page report was released Thursday.

“The most powerful men at Penn State failed to take any steps for 14 years to protect the children who Sandusky victimized,” Freeh commented on Thursday, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Freeh concluded that PSU leaders “never demonstrated, through actions or words, any concern for the safety and well-being of Sandusky’s victims until after Sandusky’s arrest.”

In fact, Paterno and top PSU officials offered Sandusky a job indefinitely in 1999, a year after they were informed of him groping an 11-year-old boy in the shower, according to DeadSpin.com.

Freeh also faults Penn State’s sports culture, saying witnesses and victims feared the power of the football program and its coaches, the LA Times reported.

Ex-FBI director Louie Freeh, father of six, will head up Penn State University’s own probe into the child sex abuse scandal rocking that school, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported.

The Inquirer reported that Freeh’s appointment was announced Monday morning by Ken Frazier, president and CEO of Merck and Co. who is the chair of the special investigative committee created by the Penn State Board of Trustees.

“The scope of our probe will be broad, covering a lengthy period of time,” said Freeh, promising to “leave no stone unturned” to get to the root of the scandal, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported.

Freeh will review the university’s policies and internal controls, the paper reported. Freeh said he has put together a team of investigators which includes former FBI agents and fed prosecutors.

“The allegations that have been raised and the charges that have been brought are extraordinarily serious,” said Freeh, according to the Inquirer.
