Shouting and chanting protesters forced acting Homeland Security Secretary Kevin McAleenan off the stage before he could deliver a keynote address at Georgetown University’s Law Centeron Monday.

McAleenan was expected to give a 45-minute speech at the law school when he was immediately drowned out by chants of, “When immigrants are under attack, what do we do? Stand up, fight back,” The USA Today reports.

A group of protesters also held a banner that read, “hate is not normal.”

The speech was part of an annual conference on immigration by the Migration Policy Institute (MPI), a nonpartisan think tank, Georgetown University Law School and the Catholic Legal Immigration Network (CLINIC).

After trying to start his speech several times, he eventually gave up and said, “OK, thank you” and left the stage.

Activists said they didn’t want to give McAleenan a platform to “spread hatred.”

“No Trump henchmen should be given a platform to spread hatred or defend the racist, xenophobic policies put into place by Donald Trump and Stephen Miller,” said Nicole Regalado, the campaign director of CREDO Action. “Institutions that elevate the architects and enforcers of Trump’s hate and normalize that cruelty can expect to hear from us.”

The nation’s top law enforcement officials are warning of potential violence at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland next week.

ABC News reports that officials were worried about radical activists.

“I am concerned about the prospect of demonstrations getting out of hand, and concerned about the possibility of violence,” Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson told the House Homeland Security Committee Thursday. “We have to be concerned about things getting out of hand, definitely.”

FBI Director James Comey agreed.

“It’s a threat we’re watching very, very carefully,” adding that the concern is over “a spectrum of radical groups.”

Earlier this week, local law enforcement and the Secret Service said they are prepared for thousands of protesters.

Secret Service agents rushed to protect Bernie Sanders on a stage for the second time in a week.

Sanders was delivering a speech Thursday in Modesto, Calif., when animal-rights protesters shouted at the senator and unfurled a black banner that read, “Animal Liberation is Social Justice.”

Two Secret Service agents jumped on the stage, and the protesters were escorted out.

Secret Service agents also rushed the stage on Monday when at least four people ran toward Sanders.

Secret Service agents surrounded Bernie Sanders during a rally in Oakland, Calif.  on Monday after at least four people rushed the stage.

It was unclear why the stage was rushed, but Sanders was not injured.

The individuals were apprehended and taken into custody.

Their identities were not revealed as of Tuesday morning.

“It was handled professionally by the Secret Service,” Sanders spokesman Michael Briggs said.

In March, Secret Service agents sprang into action when someone tried to rush the stage at a Donald Trump rally.

Protests have become common during Donald Trump’s rallies, but on Saturday, the Republican frontrunner found himself surrounded on stage by Secret Service agents in Ohio.

A protester leaped a fence and appeared to be running at Trump on stage at the rally, prompting agents to spring into action.

Thomas Dimassimo was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct and inducing panic after he tried to rush the stage.

“I was ready for him, but it’s much easier if the cops do it, don’t we agree?” Trump said to the cheering crowd.

One witness, Chris Famiano, told Yahoo News that “Trump was giving his speech and everyone was into it. And within about a split second somebody from around the bend had jumped over the fence and was charging Donald Trump.”

“And before you know it the Secret Service had like four or five guys on him, they wrestled him to the ground. They put him in the ties and then they took him away,” Famiano said.

A day earlier, Trump canceled a rally in Chicago after thousands of protesters gathered inside and outside the University of Illinois at Chicago Pavilion.

FBI Acknowledges It Violated Own Rules by Investigating Pipeline Protesters

The FBI acknowledged Tuesday that it violated its own guidelines in 2013 by investigating environmental advocates who were protesting the Keystone XL pipeline, The New York Times reports.

Agents were investigating claims that some opponents planned to damage part of the existing pipeline, which sends oil from Canada to the Gulf of Mexico.

Without approval from their office or chief lawyer, FBI agents gathered information about opponents and combed through databases for information on environmental advocates. The investigation appears to have been prompted by communication from the Houston office.

Agents are required to get authorization for such an investigation and did not, the Times wrote.

A further investigation revealed no evidence that protesters planned to damage the pipeline.

Were Police in Ferguson Heavy-Handed During Response to Protests? Justice Department Investigates

The Justice Department has launched a review of the police response to 16 days of Ferguson protests in wake of the fatal shooting of an unarmed teen, CNN reports.

The review will examine the handling of crowd control, protesters and the media.

The task will be undertaken by a 12-person team that will include Justice Department officials and current and former police chiefs.

The assessment started last week.

Attorney General Eric Holder has criticized the police response, which has been widely considered heavy-handed.

The review comes as law enforcement braces for the outcome of the grand jury that will decide whether to indict Ferguson Police Officer Darren Wilson.

FBI Warns Of Violence in Wake of Decision About Ferguson Police Officer

The FBI is worried about “likely” threats and attacks targeting law enforcement after a grand jury determines whether a Ferguson police officer will be charged with killing an unarmed Michael Brown, ABC News reports.

The FBI also warned law enforcement of possible attacks on electrical facilities and water treatment plants.

“The announcement of the grand jury’s decision … will likely be exploited by some individuals to justify threats and attacks against law enforcement and critical infrastructure,” the FBI said in an intelligence bulletin. “This also poses a threat to those civilians engaged in lawful or otherwise constitutionally protected activities.”

The FBI’s concerns were not over peaceful protesters.

“The FBI assesses those infiltrating and exploiting otherwise legitimate public demonstrations with the intent to incite and engage in violence could be armed with bladed weapons or firearms, equipped with tactical gear/gas masks, or bulletproof vests to mitigate law enforcement measures.”
