Trump Once Again Singles Out NBC Reporter Who Needed Secret Service Protection

Donald Trump verbally attacked NBC reporter Katy Tur during a campaign rally for the third time this election season, even after the Secret Service had to protect her from violence by fans of the GOP nominee.

During a rally in Miami on Wednesday, Trump blasted the media once again and then narrowed his focus to Tur, who has been reporting on the GOP nominee side his presidential bid last summer, the New York Daily News reports.

“We have massive crowds, there’s something happening. They’re not reporting it. Katy, you’re not reporting it, Katy,” he leered, pointing at Tur who was standing on a press riser. “But there’s something happening, Katy. There’s something happening, Katy.”

The Daily News wrote:

Trump’s ostensible vendetta against Tur started last December when he called her a “third-rate journalist” during a campaign rally, prompting the crowd to hurl loud insults at the 33-year-old reporter. Trump was then back at it again during a July press conference when he bluntly told Tur to “be quiet” after she tried to ask him a question.

Tur wrote an essay in April describing how Secret Service had taken steps to protect her after Trump’s initial outburst.

“It’s unlikely that any of Trump’s future attacks will be as scary as what happened in Mount Pleasant (in December), where the crowd, feeding off Trump, seemed to turn on me like a large animal, angry and unchained,” she wrote in the Marie Claire essay. “It wasn’t until hours later, when Secret Service took the extraordinary step of walking me to my car, that the incident sank in.”

Secret Service agents surrounded Hillary Clinton Wednesday afternoon when a protester broke past barricades at a rally and nearly reached the stage where she was speaking.

Video shows the agents tackling the protester, who was an animal-rights advocate. It wasn’t clear why Clinton was targeted at the campaign stop in Des Moines, Iowa.

The protester has been identified as Kelsey Atkinson of Chicago.

Clinton continued to deliver the speech as the protester was removed.

The FBI is helping investigate the shooting of 11 people officers during an anti-violence rally in Dallas on Thursday evening.

President Obama described the attacks as “a vicious, calculated and despicable attack on law enforcement,” CNN reports.

“There is no possible justification for these kinds of attacks or any violence against law enforcement,” Obama said, speaking from the NATO summit in Poland that he is attending. “Anyone involved in the senseless murders will be held fully accountable. Justice will be done.”

The shootings left five officers dead.

Obama said he would comment further once the killers’ “twisted motivations” were known.

A 19-year-old man who tried to disarm a police officer at a Donald Trump rally in Las Vegas Saturday told investigators he wanted “to kill Trump” with the gun,” a new criminal complaint alleges.

Michael Sandford was arrested after he tried to remove an officer’s gun from its holster at a Trump rally, CNN reports.

Sanford was quickly detained by other officers.

According to court records, Sandford said he drove from California to Las Vegas “to kill Trump.”

Secret Service agents surrounded Bernie Sanders during a rally in Oakland, Calif.  on Monday after at least four people rushed the stage.

It was unclear why the stage was rushed, but Sanders was not injured.

“It was handled professionally by the Secret Service,” Sanders spokesman Michael Briggs said.

In March, Secret Service agents sprang into action when someone tried to rush the stage at a Donald Trump rally.

Homeland Security’s inspector general is investigating a Secret Service agent who choke-slammed a Time magazine photographer during a Donald Trump rally in Virginia, Politico has confirmed.

Videos taken at the event show a tense exchange between the photographer and the Secret Service agent, who has not yet been identified. One video appears to show photographer Chris Morris chest-bumping the agent before he threw the photo-journalist to the ground.

“We do have an independent investigation regarding that incident,” Arlen Morales, spokesman for the inspector general, said.

Morales said the goal is to have a “short turnaround” on the investigtion.

The Secret Service declined to comment on the investigation, but referred to a previous statement about the episode.

“The matter involving an encounter between a member of the Secret Service and a member of the media is under review and we therefore cannot comment further,” the statement said.

Time has contacted the Secret Service to express concern about the “level and nature” of the agent’s response.

The Secret Service’s rough treatment of a Time photographer during a Donald Trump rally has raised serious questions about the agency’s role during campaigns.

The Secret Service responded Wednesday that it does not remove protesters from campaign events unless a threat is posed to the candidate, the Wall Street Journal reports.

The Secret Service said its agents were not involved in ejecting a group of black students from a Trump rally in Georgia this week.

But the agency said it’s still investigating a altercation between an agent and a photojournalist at the rally.

“The Secret Service does not engage in any action to address or remove any individual or group exercising First Amendment rights who may create a disruption at a secured venue,” the Secret Service said in a statement. “The Secret Service only intervenes if an individual or group poses a security threat to a protectee or interferes with any law enforcement activity.”

The Secret Services rejected claims that its agents removed protesters during the rally.

“Reports that the Secret Service escorted attendees out of the premises at an event in Georgia this past Monday evening are false. The Secret Service does not escort attendees out of protectees’ events in such circumstances and it was not the Secret Service who did so at that event,” the agency said.
