Son of Massacre Victim Wants FBI to Keep Stats on Anti-Sikh Hate Crimes

The son of a woman killed at a Sikh Temple in Wisconsin is urging the federal government to begin tracking hate crimes against Sikhs, the Associated Press reports.

At a Senate hearing Wednesday, Harpreet Singh Saini, 18, said his mother deserves “the dignity of being a statistic.”

The Department of Justice said it’s considering whether to recommend that the FBI begin keeping statistics on hate crimes against Sikhs, according to the AP.

Wade Michael Page, who later died of a self-inflicted gunshot, opened fire at a Sikh temple in Oak Creek, Wis., killing six and wounding four, the AP reported.

The Sikh Temple gunman who killed six people in a rampage outside Milwaukee died from a self-inflicted gunshot to the head, the Associated Press reports.

Wade Michael Page was wounded by police when he turned the gun on himself, the FBI said Wednesday.

Investigators still don’t know what motivated Wade Michael Page to open fire with a 9 mm pistol shortly before Sunday services.

“We have not identified anyone else responsible for the shooting and we have not identified a motive,” Teresa Carlson, FBI special agent in charge in Milwaukee, told the AP and other news agencies.

The FBI is trying to determine whether a gunman who killed killed six people at a Wisconsin Sikh temple was committing an act of domestic terrorism, the Associated Press reports.

FBI Special Agent in Charge Teresa Carlton said Sunday evening it’s unclear what prompted the attack.

This morning, the FBI identified the shooting suspect as Wade Michael Page, who served in the Army for six years, according to CBS News.

Page was killed in a shootout with police outside the temple.

Also today, police searched Page’s home for clues to a motive, Reuters reported.
