A man armed with a rifle opened fire on an ICE field office in Dallas on Wednesday, killing one detainee and critically injuring two others before taking his own life, authorities said.

The FBI identified the gunman as 29-year-old Joshua Jahn, who fired from a nearby rooftop, Reuters reports. Investigators said one unused bullet casing was inscribed with the words “ANTI-ICE.”

“This was an act of targeted violence,” said Joseph Rothrock, special agent in charge of the FBI’s Dallas office.

FBI Director Kash Patel wrote on X that “an initial review of the evidence shows an ideological motive behind this attack.” Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem told Fox News the suspect “was targeting ICE.”

Jahn’s brother, Noah, said he was unaware of any political motive.

“I didn’t know he had any political intent at all,” he told Reuters.

Former President Donald Trump called the shooting proof of a “grave threat” from “radical left terrorists,” accusing Democrats of inciting violence against ICE. He said he would soon sign an executive order to “dismantle these domestic terrorism networks,” though he offered no evidence such groups were involved.

The attack came two weeks after conservative activist Charlie Kirk was fatally shot in Utah, fueling fears of escalating political violence.
