Pam Bondi, the former Florida attorney general, was confirmed Tuesday night by the U.S. Senate for U.S. Attorney General.
The 54-46 vote was pretty much along party lines. Bondi got one Democratic vote — Sen. John Fetterman of Pennsylvania, CNN reports.
Democrats raised concerns during confirmation hearings that she might carry out vendettas for President Trump. She denied she would do so. They were also concerned about her being an election denier.
Bondi was not Trump’s first pick.
He initially picked former Congressman Matt Gaetz. But Gaetz’s damaging record about paying prostitutes and doing drugs made it too difficult for him to get confirmed. He ended up dropping out after being told he didn’t have enough votes to get confirmed.
