The Trump administration is considering a plan to replace senior field office leaders at ICE with officials from CBP, according to multiple law enforcement sources, ABC News reports.
As many as 12 ICE field office directors, from Los Angeles to Philadelphia, could be replaced in the coming days, a law enforcement source said. The shake-up is being led by Trump adviser Corey Lewandowski, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, and Commander at Large Greg Bovino.
The move would mark a major shift in ICE’s operations, which have traditionally promoted from within. Officials say the goal is to accelerate deportations, a priority for the White House.
Bovino has drawn both criticism and praise within the department. A federal judge recently called him to testify about possibly ignoring a court order, while senior DHS leaders have lauded his aggressive enforcement tactics.
“This is one team, one fight,” DHS spokeswoman Tricia McLaughlin wrote Monday on X. “President Trump has a brilliant, tenacious team led by @Sec_Noem to deliver on the American people’s mandate to remove criminal illegal aliens from this country.”
“As we said, we have no personnel changes to announce right now, but we remain laser focused on RESULTS and we will deliver,” she added.
