A retired president of the union representing U.S. Border Patrol Agents is accused of using hundreds of thousands of dollars in labor funds for personal use beginning in 2007, New American reports.

Terrence J. “T.J.” Bonner, who is accused of 12 counts of conspiring to commit fraud, was indicted by a federal grand jury in San Diego late last week.

Authorities said Bonner used dues-paying funds to visit a mistress in Chicago, store pornography and attend hockey games, according to New American.

“Siphoning hundreds of thousands of dollars from hard-working fellow Border Patrol agents, many of whom put their lives on the line every day to protect this country, is a particularly troubling form of corruption that must be addressed,” U.S. Attorney Laura Duffy said.

Local police across the country soon will be using the FBI’s facial recognition software to help identify suspects, reports Government Computer News.

The FBI is extending its facial recognition pilot to other states after Michigan began testing the program in February.

Hawaii and Maryland are planning to sign on to the program. Others expected to include  South Carolina, Ohio, New Mexico, Kansas, Arizona, Tennessee, Nebraska and Missouri, according to GCN.

The software would enable local police to search a repository of about 13 million criminal mug shots.

Up for sale: Two story, lakefront Florida retreat riddled with bullets.

The suggested starting price: $1 million.

The frame house in rural Ocklawaha, about 60 miles northwest of Orlando, is where FBI agents killed legendary Ma Barker in 1935, Reuters reports.  She was the mother of some  gangsters of the Barker and was considered an accomplice to their crimes.

“It’s like walking into a time capsule in 1935. The fact that it has this extra history is a really interesting cachet,” Mark Arnold, a realtor, told Reuters.

Barker was one of the most notorious gangsters, wanted in the early 1930s for murders, kidnapping and robberies.

The Treasury Department has tapped a top official with the Justice Department to investigate financial crimes, The Hill reports.

Jennifer Shasky Calver, who probed asset forfeiture and money laundering for the Justice Department since 2010, will replace outgoing Jim Freis.

Calvery plans to take over the Treasury’s Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCen) in September.

“I am delighted to welcome Jennifer as the new FinCEN Director and as a key member of my senior leadership team. Her proven record of leadership and strong working relationships with Treasury, law enforcement and the federal bank regulatory agencies will be enormous assets to us as we work together to chart a course for FinCEN’s future,” said David Cohen, the Treasury’s under secretary for terrorism and financial intelligence, according to The Hill.

Supporters of a former Marine who was forced into psychiatric care for posting anti-government messages on Facebook say authorities are violating his First Amendment rights, the Washington Post reports.

Brandon J. Raub, 26, has been in custody since Thursday after the FBI, Secret Service and local police became alarmed by ominous Facebook posts, including one that read, “Sharpen my axe; I’m here to sever heads,” the Washington Post reported.

Raub, who has not been charged with a crime, was ordered detained for another month, according to Charlottesville-based civil liberties group, the Rutherford Institute.

“For government officials to not only arrest Brandon Raub for doing nothing more than exercising his First Amendment rights but to actually force him to undergo psychological evaluations and detain him against his will goes against every constitutional principle this country was founded upon,” Rutherford Executive Director John Whitehead told the Post. “This should be a wake-up call to Americans that the police state is here.”

Raub’s mother, Cathleen Thomas, said her son is “a staunch patriot.”
