Anti-Defamation League Launches Online Database of Extremist and Racist Symbols and Tattoos

Looking to get a better understanding of extremist and racist symbols and tattoos?

The Anti-Defamation League (ADL), a Jewish organization which often works with law enforcement,  is out to help.

The organization on Monday announced that it has launched a major new online database of extremist and racist symbols and tattoos.

A press release states:

ADL’s Hate on Display features 175 hate symbols identified as the potential “calling cards” of extremists, racists and haters and is the most comprehensive online resource available devoted to symbols and iconography employed by domestic extremists in the United States.

ADL’s original hate symbols database debuted in October 2000 with a collection of more than 70 symbols. The newly revised database is more comprehensive and includes several new categories, reflecting the fact that hate groups continue to develop and popularize new symbols even as the hateful power of old symbols endures.

“Just like Nazi Germany placed a great emphasis on symbols such as the swastika, and just as the KKK used burning crosses, nooses and other symbols to intimidate, white supremacists today place a great reliance on visual symbols to intimidate others and to privately communicate with fellow racists,” said Abraham H. Foxman, ADL National Director. “These symbols are often the first calling cards of racists and bigots.”

The FBI tried unsuccessfully to lure quarterback legend Joe Montana into a real estate sting, the San Francisco Gate reports.

Montana’s attorney James Brosnahan said the bureau used an undercover agent posing as a real estate investor interested in partnering with a planned hotel development next to the 49ers’ new stadium.

“It shows the deepest lack of judgment I can imagine,” Brosnahan said.

The agent “presented himself as an honest businessman who wanted to invest in Montana’s hotel,” Brosnahan said.

The Gate reports that Montana wasn’t interested in a new partner and didn’t appear to do anything illegal.

The meeting with Montana was part of a four-year probe into that ended in the indictments in March of Leland  Yee, a now-suspended state senator, and 28 others.

A U.S. war crimes tribunal will determine whether the FBI acted inappropriately by trying to turn a member of the legal defense team into an informant, Reuters reports.

Attorneys for Guantanamo Bay inmates accused of orchestrating the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks plan to argue that the FBI created a conflict of interest.

The Guantanamo Bay military commission is to hear the defense motion today and Tuesday.

The defendants have been held since 2002 and 2003.

Reporters are monitoring the hearing through a closed-circuit TV in Maryland.

A Texas congressman refused to be kept out of the McAllen Border Patrol station where about 1,000 illegal immigrants, primarily children, in squalid, cramped conditions, the Blaze reports.

Rep. Henry Cuellar, a Democrat, said the immigrants are squeezed into the facility, and many have infectious diseases like tuberculosis, chickenpox and scabies.

“I’ve been saying, ‘Use the nonprofits, use the churches don’t just use the taxpayers’ dollars to take care of these young kids,’” Cuellar said. “[President Barack Obama] still has a long way to go to improve this. Don’t just listen to the words of the bureaucrats up there in Washington, listen to the men and women that work here. The men and women of the Border Patrol know what’s going on here.”

Cuellar said he talked to some of the children in the holding area and blamed failed immigration laws on the problem.

U.S. Authorities Worried That Next Terror Plot Could Originate from ISIS Terrorists

Authorities are worried that the next 9/11-like terror plot could come from the increasingly violent Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) that is claiming to have killed about 1,700 Iraqi soldiers, CBS News reports.

The situation is getting increasingly more dangerous as Islamic militants continue to sweep through Iraq.

“You’ve got motivation mixed with opportunity, ideology and foreign fighters and all of that looks like a very extreme version of Afghanistan in the ’90s, plus what was happening in Iraq after the Iraq war,” said CBS News National Security Analyst Juan Zarate. “This is a cauldron of future terrorist threats to the west.”

Zarate said the group poses dangers to the U.S.

“I think the grave threat here is that you have the seeds of a new terrorist movement emerging very aggressively.”

Sen. Lindsey Graham agrees.

“The seeds of 9/11s are being planted all over Iraq and Syria,” Graham said. “They want an Islamic caliphate that runs through Syria and Iraq…and they plan to drive us out of the Mideast by attacking us here at home.”
