Although Joaquin ‘El Chapo’ Guzman was jailed and escaped from a Mexican prison in July, his Sinaloa cartel continues to traffic drugs across the border on a massive scale, The Daily Mail reports.

A newly released map by the DEA shows that El Chapo’s gang continues to yield tremendous influence, sending drugs all over the U.S.

A DEA report indicates that Sinaloa “maintains the most significant presence in the United States.”

“These Mexican poly-drug organizations traffic heroin, methamphetamine, cocaine, and marijuana throughout the United States, using established transportation routes and distribution networks,” the report states.

“They control drug trafficking across the southwest border and are moving to expand their share, particularly in the heroin and methamphetamine markets.”

Following the Paris terror attacks, the chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee is calling for “an increase in funding” to protect the U.S. from a similar attack, CNSNEws.com reports.

Asked on ABC’s “This Week” what needs to be done to protect the homeland, Rep. Michael McCaul, R-Texas, responded:

“Well, it’s — it’s very difficult and — and we don’t want these foreign fighters coming into the United States from visa waiver countries,” McCaul responded. “We’ve had, in the homeland, 18 plots stopped that were ISIS-related. We’ve arrested 70 ISIS followers. And we have 1,000 investigations in all 50 states.

“So I think one thing Congress can do is we have an appropriations bill coming up in about two weeks. And I think the FBI and components of Homeland Security will need an increase in funding to help combat this threat that we see right in our homeland.”

Reop. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., said airport security remains a problem.

“We certainly have resource challenges, but we are fortunate that we don’t have anywhere near the number of foreign fighters to track that Europe does.

“At the same time, I think two areas where we can really beef up our own security, one is a continuing vulnerability at our airports. All too often when we test the TSA, they don’t meet the test, and that has to (change).”

The University of Chicago shut down today after the FBI warned of an online threat of gun violence on campus, The Chicago Sun-Times reports.

The Hyde Park campus “will have an increased police and security presence on and around campus, including police personnel with visible weapons and other additional measures,” University of Chicago President Robert J. Zimmer wrote.

University security personnel are keeping in close contact with the FBI, which is continuing to investigate the threat.”

FBI Special Agent John Hyde wrote this statement: “Upon learning of a possible threat, we shared information with law enforcement and University officials, as is our practice. The decision to cancel classes was made by the University. Our investigation to determine the source of the online threat is ongoing.”

The FBI said someone posted an online threat of gun violence against the school for 10 a.m. Monday.

Zimmer wrote that the university canceled classes “based on the FBI’s assessment of this threat and recent tragic events at other campuses across the country.”

Two months before a gunman shot and killed three people, including a police officer, at a Planned Parenthood in Colorado, the FBI warned of potential attacks at the clinics nationwide, CBS News reports.

The FBI issued an intelligence bulletin in September following the release of a series of videos by Center for Medical Progress that claimed to show Planned Parenthood doctors negotiating the harvesting of fetal tissues from abortions.

Congress also was debating funding for Planned Parenthood.

The intelligence bulletin warned of “lone offenders using tactics of arsons and threats all of which are typical of the pro-life extremist movement.”

Leading up to the bulletin, there had been nine criminal or suspicious incidents in seven stats and D.C. involving Planned Parenthood attacks.
