FBI: NYC Terror Suspect Inspired by ISIS Magazine with Instructions for Truck Attacks

The Uzbek immigrant who plowed into people on a bike path in New York City on Tuesday afternoon, killing eight and injuring nearly a dozen others, was inspired by ISIS and planned the attack for weeks, according to the FBI.

The FBI announced Wednesday afternoon that it was seeking information on another Uzbek immigrant who may have helped in the attack. But about an hour later, the FBI said during a press conference that Mukhammadzoir Kadirov, 32, was no longer being sought. It wasn’t immediately clear why investigators are no longer searching for the man, whose image was circulated on wanted posters.

Reuters reported the truck driver,  Sayfullo Saipov, had been in contact with a man who had been investigated by the FBI. It wasn’t immediately clear if that was Kadirov.

Saipov was charged in federal court Wednesday with terrorism-related crimes in connection with the deadliest terror attack in the city since Sept. 11, 2001.

Investigators say Saipov was shot in the abdomen by a police officer, planned the attack for weeks “in the name of ISIS,” and was inspired by the terrorist group’s magazine in which followers were urged to carry out a truck attack and leave behind a note indicated their support for ISIS.

Authorities found handwritten notes left behind by Saipov that suggested ISIS “would endure forever.”

Investigators have interviewed Saipov at the hospital, where he is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Videos viewed by authorities show Saipov driving at a moderate speed until he accelerated into the jogging path.

President Trump used the attack to slam a bipartisan immigration bill that created a visa lottery program that allowed Saipov to enter the U.S.

Lawmakers Disclose Russia’s Vile Social Media Ads to Help Trump

Russia’s aggressive and surreptitious campaign to influence the U.S. presidential election included troves of misleading and often vicious social media ads targeting Muslims, Black Lives Matter and illegal immigrants.

Members of the House Intelligence Committee released thousands of advertisements on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Google linked to a Russian group called the Internet Research Agency. The ads, initially turned over by Facebook, reached as many as 126 million users, the Associated Press reports

One ad for an event called, “Support Hillary. Save American Muslims,” included a photo of Donald Trump’s Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton. Another called for a burqa ban in American, suggesting the Muslim apparel could be used to hide a terrorist.

Another ad by “Army of Jesus” calls Clinton “Satan” and encourages Americans to elect “a president with godly moral principles.”

Lawmakers slammed the social media companies for failing to act before the election.

“I don’t think you get it. I think the fact that you’re general counsels, you defend your company,” Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) said at the hearing about Russia’s use of social media in the 2016 election, Politico reports. “What we’re talking about is the beginning of cyberwarfare.”

Allegations that Trump’s campaign colluded with Russia to sabotage Clinton is at the center of a growing special counsel investigation that has already resulted in charges against three campaign aides and includes ongoing inquiries into whether Trump obstructed justice by firing then-FBI Director James Comey for refusing to back down from an investigation into Trump aides.

The New York City attacker is talking to investigators and appears “proud” of the attack with a rental truck that killed eight people and wounded 13 on a bike path in lower Manhattan on Tuesday afternoon, ABC News reports.

Officials say the attacker, Sayfullo Saipov, 29, was shot and wounded by police. There’s no indication that he was previously on the radar of law enforcement.

Witness Eugene Duffy described one victim’s body as “mangled,” saying he was “traumatized” from what he saw.

“Everybody was running,” Duffy told ABC New York station WABC-TV. “Everything was happening so fast.”

The FBI said it had conducted searches throughout the night in the ongoing investigation.

The controversial dossier on Donald Trump isn’t vanishing any time soon.

The latest: Justice Department and FBI officials showed classified documents related to the controversial document behind closed doors Tuesday before the House Intelligence Committee, Fox News reports.

The committee is trying to determine what federal law enforcement has done to flush out the report compiled by the Washington-based boutique investigative firm Fusion GPS headed up by former Wall Street Journal reporter Glenn Simpson.

The documents reviewed Tuesday were presented for inspection pursuant to a subpoena issued by the committee’s chairman, U.S. Rep. Devin Nunes, R-Calif,  Fox reports.

A special counsel investigation that President Trump has dismissed as a “witch hunt” fueled by “fake news” has suddenly become very real.

On Monday, Robert Mueller’s legal team dropped bombshells: Two Trump campaign aides have been charged with federal crimes and another has cooperated and admitted he tried to set up a clandestine meeting between the future president and Russia’s Vladimir Putin.

As the legal heat turns up on the Trump administration, former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon is urging Trump to dump Special Counsel Robert Mueller, Politico reports

Bannon, who now is the executive chairman of the right-wing Breitbart News, advised the president to defund Mueller’s office to avoid officially firing him.

CNN’s Dana Bash reported Bannon even told Trump he should withhold documents requested by investigators.

“I’m told Bannon pushing trump to be more aggressive against Mueller: urge gop to cut funding, withhold document production and more,” Bash wrote on Twitter.
