Acting Homeland Security Secretary Contradicts Tucker Carlson about White Supremacy ‘Hoax’

Acting Homeland Security Secretary Kevin McAleenan contradicted Fox News’ Tucker Carlson by saying “there is a rise” in white supremacy-fueled domestic terrorism.

Carlson, a conservative provocateur who often defends President Trump on controversial issues, has been pushing the narrative that an increase in white supremacy is a “hoax.”

When asked on Fox and Friends if domestic terrorism was really on the rise or if “it’s just being reported differently,” McAleenan responded, “I think there is a rise in the number of incidents.”

“The FBI director testified last month, about 850 domestic terrorism investigations ongoing, a number of those with racially motivated, violent extremest ideologies behind them,” McAleenan, a Trump appointee, said Wednesday.

McAleenan added that “we’ve got to get out in front of that, both on the prevention side and identifying individuals that are on a pathway to violence.” He said Homeland Security has been notifying schools and state and local officials about ways to identify potentially violent people before they act out.

“That’s what we have to do,” McAleenen said. “So there is a concern there is an increasing amount of violence in the targeted sense.”

Just three days after the mass shooting in El Paso, where the gunman wrote a manifesto about the “invasion of Hispanics” before killing 22 people, Carlson said white supremacy is “actually not a real problem in America.”

“It’s a hoax, just like the Russia hoax,” Carlson insisted. “It’s a conspiracy theory used to divide the country and keep a hold on power.”

FBI’s Ex-Top Lawyer Blasts Trump for Claiming Mueller Broke the Law without Evidence

President Trump

The FBI’s former top lawyer blasted President Trump for claiming without evidence that Robert Mueller committed a crime by deleting text messages between two FBI employees.

James Baker, who was the FBI’s general counsel during the Russia investigation, said Trump’s accusations were “unacceptable.”

“Accusing Americans of crimes without a factual basis and having him just pronounce this is just unacceptable,” Baker said on CNN. “If the president thinks that Robert Mueller committed a crime, then he should direct the attorney general to conduct an investigation and then not talk about it.”

The accusations come less than 24 hours after Mueller agreed to testify before two House committees. Mueller was reluctant but said he would after receiving subpoenas.

“Mueller terminated them illegally. He terminated all of the emails,” Trump said in an interview with Fox Business. “Robert Mueller terminated their text messages together. He terminated them. They’re gone. And that’s illegal. That’s a crime.”

Trump was referring to text messages between former FBI agent Peter Strzok and former FBI lawyer Lisa Page, who were involved in a romantic relationship and swapped disparaging remarks about the president.

Insider points out that thousands of those text messages were released last year by the Justice Department’s Inspector General. A technical glitch resulted in an additional 19,000 text messages being erased.

Right-Wing Media Gets Whackier, Calling for Abolishment of FBI

Fox News’ Sean Hannity interviews President Trump, via Twitter.

President Trump’s most stubborn defenders in the right-wing media have taken their attacks on the FBI to another whacky level.

Fox News legal analyst Gregg Jarrett called for scrapping the FBI because, he insisted, it’s part of a deep state conspiracy to bring down the president.

“This is an all-powerful, out of control agency,” Jarrett said on Sean Hannity’s show Monday. “Rogue agency. And frankly, it’s time that it be halted in its tracks and reorganized and replaced with a new organization that has legal restraints imposed upon it and accountable to somebody. When the boss of the FBI Rod Rosenstein is in bed with his subordinates, inventing a counter-intelligence case against the President with no probable cause, no reasonable suspicion, no credible evidence. It is time that the FBI be halted.”

A day earlier, Joel Pollak from the far right-wing site Breitbart, wrote that it’s “time to scrap the FBI and start over fresh with a reorganized agency under a new name and with an improved commitment to neutrality and accountability.”

Never mind that most of the top FBI officials who have been accused of a running a rogue bureau are lifelong Republicans. Or that fired FBI Director James Comey may have cost Hillary Clinton the presidency by suggesting he was reopening the investigation into her email server just days before the election.

The accusations and suggestions have gotten so bizarre and devoid of evidence that some Republicans are speaking out against the feverish right-wing media.

U.S. Sen. Bob Corker, of Tennessee, recently said Trump has ushered in the “tyranny of the right-wing media” and must be stopped before propaganda replaces facts.

Former FBI Director Comey Slams Republicans, Fox News After Congressional Hearing

Former FBI Director James Comey walked out of his closed-door testimony to the House Judiciary and Oversight Committee and slammed House Republicans and Fox News.

“At some point, someone has to stand up and in the face of fear of Fox News, fear of their base, fear of mean tweets, stand up for the values of this country and not slink away into retirement but stand up and speak the truth,” Comey, a longtime Republican, said. “I find it frustrating to be here answering questions about things that are far less important than the values this country is built upon.”

Comey also said the failure of House Republicans to defend the FBI from Trump’s drumbeat of criticism is “to their everlasting shame.”

“Their silence is shameful,” Comey said. “Someday, they gotta explain to their grandchildren what they did today.”

During the closed-door session, Comey said he was barraged with questions about Hillary Clinton’s email server and Christopher Steele’s dossier.

Since Democrats are taking over the House in January, Monday was likely their last time to control hearings involving Comey.

Trump’s decision to fire Comey in May 2017 was quickly followed by Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein appointing  special counsel Robert Mueller.

The New York Daily News reports that witnesses have seen what appears to be a black U.S. Secret Service car parked outside Kimberly Guilfoyle’s Central Park West apartment.  She’s dating Donald Trump Jr.

The Daily News reports:

For the fourth straight Tuesday, Donald Trump Jr. enjoyed a date night with Fox News host Kimberly Guilfoyle, according to a source on the scene. The 40-year-old scion’s secret service detail dropped them both off outside the 49-year-old TV host’s Central Park West apartment for a nightcap.

Passersby have noticed the black SUV’s with out of state plates parked near Guilfoyle’s building every Tuesday since early May.

Rep. Issa Rips DOJ, FBI, Accuses Them of Misleading Congress in Russia Probe

Rep. Darrell Issa

The war of words inside the Beltway over the Trump-Russia investigation shows no signs of letting up.

Rep. Darrell Issa accused the Justice Department and FBI of purposefully misleading Congress when it comes to the origin of the Trump-Russia investigation, Real Clear Politics reports.

“I believe they’re lying through their teeth,” Issa said on Fox News Channel’s “Sunday Morning Futures” with Maria Bartiromo.

Issa, formerly chair of the Oversight Committee, claims it “very much a tradition” for the Justice Department to lie to Congress. He wished Intelligence Committee Chair Devin Nunes and Oversight Committee Chair Trey Gowdy good luck finding the truth.

“To be honest, the deputy needs to recuse himself. We need to have a level of transparency. Probably not one person but multiple people who in fact oversee this to make sure that the American people get what they deserve,” Issa said.

Fox News’ Sean Hannity Revealed As Mysterious Client of Trump’s Personal Attorney

President Trump’s personal attorney, Michael Cohen, was ordered Monday to disclose the identity of a mysterious client whom he had tried to keep secret – and it’s none other than Fox News personality Sean Hannity.

Cohen’s lawyers tried to prevent Hannity’s name from being disclosed earlier in the day, but District Judge Kimba Wood demanded it, according to numerous news reports

The lawyers said Cohen had only three clients – Trump, Hannity and Elliot Broidy, a prominent Los Angeles-based Republican fundraiser who, it was revealed last week, helped Cohen negotiate a $1.6 million settlement with a former Playboy model who said she had an affair with Trump.

Hannity, an outspoken Trump supporter who has repeatedly slammed the FBI’s raid on Cohen’s office, hotel and computers, first responded on Twitter, saying Cohen had “never represented me in any matter,” but the two had “occasionally brief discussions” on unidentified legal issues.

Later on his radio show, Hannity said he believed the conversations with Cohen were confidential.

“I’ve known Michael a long, long time,” Hannity said. “Let me be very clear to the media. Michael never represented me in any matter. I never retained him in the traditional sense as retaining a lawyer. I never received an invoice from Michael. I never paid legal fees to Michael.”

FBI agents seized Cohen’s computers, phones, office and hotel room in a raid that sought, among other records, all communications between Cohen and Trump and his campaign aides.

Cohen, who is under investigation for possible bank fraud and campaign finance violations, has caught the attention of federal prosecutors for his role in combating negative stories about Trump. In 2016, Cohen paid adult-film attorney Stormy Daniels $130,000 to stay quiet about an affair she said she had with Trump shortly after his wife had a baby in 2006.

It’s unclear whether Hannity also is under investigation.

Former Fox News analyst Wayne Simons was a lot of things, but a CIA agent likely wasn’t one of them.

The Washington Post reports that the former professional football player and drug trafficker lied about a career as a spy, according to the CIA.

Simons, who said he spent 27 years as an agency operative, is expected to be sentenced this morning for perpetuating fraud and illegal firearm possession. Prosecutors are asking for a three-year prison sentence.

Authorities investigated Simmons’ life and career and found no evidence he worked as a spy.
