4 Congressional Members Send Letter to FBI’s Mueller and Hillary Clinton Asking Palestinians to be Put on Terrorist List

The U.S. terrorist data base watch could get quite a few new names if it’s up to four Jewish Congress members.

The Jewish Telegraph Agency reports that the four Congress members wrote to FBI Director Robert S. Mueller III and Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton asking that they place on the list the names of the Palestinian prisoners who were recently released in exchange for Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit, who had been abducted and held prisoner since 2006. The move would prevent any of those people from entering the U.S.

The Jewish Telegraph Agency reported that Israel agreed to release 1,027 Palestinian men and women, and all but a handful were convicted of terrorism related crimes.

“Each of these Palestinian prisoners has been convicted of a terrorism-related offense and should be treated as such,” said the Oct. 28 letter, which was first obtained by Politico.

The letter was signed by Rep. Howard Berman (D-Calif.), the senior Democrat on the House Foreign Affairs Committee; Rep. Gary Ackerman (D-N.Y.), the senior Democrat on its Middle East subcommittee; Rep. Henry Waxman (D-Calif.), the senior Democrat on the Energy and Commerce Committee; and Rep. Steve Israel (D-N.Y.), the chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.

WASHINGTON — Rep. Darrell Issa, chairman of the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, took sharp aim Tuesday at Secretary of State Hilary Rodham Clinton over the controversial ATF gun program dubbed Operation Fast and Furious.

In a letter fired off  Tuesday to Clinton, and posted on the CBS News website, Issa chastised Clinton for not providing information to Sen. Chuck Grassley on the ATF program that allowed gun traffickers to pass weapons on to Mexico, all with the hopes of tracing them  to the drug cartels.

“On March 4, 2001, Senator Charles E. Grassley wrote to you requesting basic information about the connection between Operation “Fast and Furious”conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), and the December 14, 2010 firefight that claimed the life of Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry,” Issa wrote. “I understand you have yet to respond and are likely to refuse Senator Grassley’s request for information without a letter from the Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee.

“This refusal is mystifying in its own right, given Senator Grassley’s standing as the Ranking Member of that Committee. More inexplicably, your refusal stands in stark contradiction to the promise of transparency promoted by President Obama. During Sunshine Week last year, the President stated that  he had “recommit(ed) (his) administration to be the most open and honest ever.”

“Given the gravity of this matter, this refusal is simply unacceptable,” he wrote. “Therefore, I am joining Senator Grassley’s request for any and all records relating to a meeting involving the then-U.S. Ambassador to Mexico Carlos Pascual with Assistant Attorney General Lanny Breuer, Mr. Breuer’s deputy, and other officials in Mexico City in the summer of 2010 regarding “on-going investigations” related to Project Gunrunner and its “Fast and Furious” component….Additionally, please explain in detail the reasons behind your refusal to answer the Senator directly.”

Issa asked that doucments be handed over no later than 5 p.m. on April 12.

Washington Post Editorial: U.S. Guns Going to Mexico is “Scandalous”

WASHINGTON — SECRETARY OF STATE Hillary Rodham Clinton caused a stir last week by suggesting that Mexico’s drug-trafficking gangs were beginning to resemble an insurgency, like that which has plagued Colombia.

She’s right in the sense that the cartels have come to effectively control parts of the country, where they “attempt to replace the state,” as Mexican President Felipe Calderón put it last month. Like most insurgencies, the Mexican drug armies also have an external source of funding and weapons. Shamefully, that is the United States.

A new report details the abundance of U.S. weapons delivered to the cartels — and the inadequacy of U.S. efforts to stop the illegal trafficking.

According to authors Colby Goodman and Michel Marizco, at least 62,800 of the more than 80,000 firearms confiscated by Mexican authorities from December 2006 to February 2010 came from the United States. Guns are being smuggled across the border at a rate of up to 5,000 per year. The top two varieties are assault rifles: Romanian-made AK47s and clones of the Bushmaster AR-15.
