Attorneys for Aurora theater shooting suspect James Holmes are trying to convince a judge to restrict some evidence from being used at trial because of the police’s handling of the investigation, ABC 7 in Denver reported.

One of the issues is why police continued to talk to Holmes after his attorney advised them not to.

Holmes is charged with more than 160 counts of murder and attempted murder after opening fire in a movie theater in Aurora in July 2012, killing 12 people and injuring 70.

Accused Aurora theater shooter James Holmes rigged his Colorado apartment with a frying pan, thermos, remote-control car and dangerous chemicals in hopes that it would blow up when law enforcement arrived, NBC News reports.

The revelation was made Tuesday during the murder the trial for Holmes, a grad-school dropout.

According to a bomb technician who took the stand, Holmes rigged the equipment so a series of explosions would have spread flames through his apartment when his door was opened, NBC New wrote.

A trip wire led from the door to a thermos, which was to spill glycerine on a frying pan filled with potassium permanganate, NBC News reported.

If the two combined, a quick-spreading fire with explosions was almost certain, the technician testified.

Former US Attorney Probes University Response to Shooter

Robert Miller, former U.S. Attorney for Colorado, has begun conducting an internal review of the University of Colorado’s actions and procedures related to the deadly Aurora Theater shootings, according to the Denver Business Journal.

James Holmes dropped out of the school’s graduate neuroscience program June 10.

Elliman Jr. said in a statement, according to the Denver Business Journal. “We want the community — especially the loved ones of those who lost their lives and the individuals injured in this senseless tragedy — to know our resolve rests with understanding all the facts so we can assist law enforcement and other authorities in ensuring that justice prevails.”

University president Bruce Benson pledged to cooperate with the independent probe.

Colorado Killer Sent Letter to University Before Massacre

Before unleashing a deadly attack at a midnight showing of “The Dark Knight Rises” in Colorado, killer James Holmes outlined his murderous plot to a psychiatrist in a letter, New York Post reports.

The notebook detailed how Holmes planned to kill people and included illustrations, according to the Post.

Authorities found the letter, which included Holmes’ return address and was delivered Monday, after Holmes allegedly killed 12 people and injured 58 others.

The Post said it’s unclear whether Holmes knows the psychiatrist, who also is a professor at the University of Colorado.

FBI Probes Link Between Shooter and Adult Dating Website

The FBI is investigating a potential link between an adult dating website and the man accused in the Aurora, Colo. massacre, the Washington Post reports.

Authorities said they found an account on Adult Friend Finder, called Classicjimbo, that resembles the shooter, James Holmes.

On the account on the site, which is for people to meet potential sex partners, the questioned is posed on Classicjimbo’s account: “Will you visit me in prison?,” according to the Washington Post.

While the account hasn’t been verified,  the idea that Holmes was anticipating a life in prison may be another indication that he was planning an attack.

The account spooked one woman.

“Please do not take it personally if I am hesitant to talk to anyone,” she wrote, according to the Washington Post . “I just found out that someone I friended on this site shot 71 people.”
