Putin Insists FBI Is Drugging Former Head of Russia’s Anti-Doping Lab

Russian President Vladimir Putin claimed – with no evidence – that the FBI is drugging the former head of Russia’s anti-doping lab so he’ll blow the whistle on a massive state-run doping program.

Putin said the former head of the lab, Grigory Rodchenkov, who is now in a witness-protection program in the U.S., is under the influence of some kind of drug to get him to cooperate with the investigation, Bloomberg reports.

The whistleblower led to Russia being barred from the 2018 Winter Olympics.

“He’s working under the control of the American special services, what kind of substances are they giving him so he says what they need?” Putin said at his annual press conference on Thursday in Moscow.

Despite Putin’s claims, Rodchenkov has the backing of the International Olympic Committee, which said the whistleblowers’s accusations that Russia was doping its athletes are credible.

According to the World Anti-Doping Agency, Russia conspired to provide banned substances to about 1,000 athletes from 2011-15.

FBI agents found at least 37,000 images and videos of child pornography on hard drives in the garbage can of a longtime USA gymnastics doctor in the Lansing, Mich. area.

The FBI also found videos that showed 53-year-old Larry Nassar sexually assaulting girls under the age of 12, the USA Today reports.

The former Michigan State University doctor was charged with two counts of child pornography in federal court.

Nasser was the team physician for USA Gymnastics until he was fired in September.

An MSU spokesman said in a statement, “The current (federal) charges do not relate to Nassar’s employment at MSU. Also, according to MSU Police, the investigation into the child pornography charges has not revealed any images of victims in the complaints of criminal sexual conduct that the department also is investigating.”

The FBI provided the tip that led Brazil to arrest 11 suspected militants accused of plotting a possible terrorist attack in the upcoming Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

Brazilian prosecutor Rafael Brum Miron said the FBI identified at least six people suspected of being militants, Reuters reports.

“The information came from the FBI,” he told the Estado de S. Paulo newspaper. “They sent a succinct report: These people merit investigating.”

The FBI declined to comment.

The suspected were arrested Thursday, just two weeks before the Olympics are scheduled to begin.

Brazil’s justice justice minister called the suspects “absolutely amateur” and said they have no formal ties to ISIS but have pledged allegiance to the terror group.

The Justice Department is investigating allegations of state-sponsored doping by dozens of Russia’s top athletes, the New York Times reports.

Prosecutors are investigating Russian government officials, athletes and coaches for possible fraud and conspiracy charges.

In November, the World Anti-Doping Agency published a report that accused Russia of systematic state-sponsored doping.

A chemist, Grigory Rodchenkov, said he was Russian athletes used banned, performance-enhancing substance in global competitions.

The Russian Sports Ministry admitted in a state last week that there were doping problems.

An Olympic gold medal swimmer who became paralyzed from the waste down said she was “humiliated” during a full-body search after her wheelchair couldn’t go through a metal detector.

ABC News reports that Van Dyken-Rouen, said she was groped during the search at Denver International Airport.

“They go around your breast. They basically go under your butt. They touch things that are not appropriate and it’s really embarrassing,” Van Dyken-Rouen told ABC News.

The TSA apologized in a written statement Monday.

“TSA works closely with the disability community to develop screening procedures that integrate the unique needs of those with disabilities or medical issues into the process. TSA reviews passenger complaints, and in this case determined that our officers did not follow correct screening protocols when Ms. Amy Van Dyken came through the security checkpoint at Denver International Airport (DEN) this weekend. TSA’s federal security director has reached out to Ms. Van Dyken. The officers involved are undergoing retraining, and TSA Denver is providing refresher training to all of its officers as well,” the statement read.

The dangers at the Olympics in Sochi, Russia can’t be overlooked, a former FBI agent warned.

NBC Charlotte reports that Chris Swecker, who led security efforts at the Olympics in Salt Lake City following the Sept. 11 attacks, said the large world stage is a magnet for terrorists.

“It’s the largest world stage. It’s where if you’re a terrorist organization, and you want to call attention to your cause, this is the No. 1 event to do that,” Swecker said.

Swecker described the threats as “nonstop” when he was in Salt Lake City.

“I mean the whole time we were there we were fielding just dozens of threats.”

“I wouldn’t send my family over there right now,” Swecker said. “My biggest concern would be the areas where western people are known to frequent.”
