Hillary Clinton Says FBI Hasn’t Told Her She Is Target of E-Mail Investigation

Hillary Clinton said during a Democratic town hall debate Monday that it was a “mistake” to “use a personal computer” when she was secretary of state, but emphasized that the FBI has not told her she is under investigation.

Fox News anchor Bret Baier told Clinton that “I’ve heard others say that neither you nor your lawyers have been apprised that you’re the target of the investigation.”

Clinton responded, “Absolutely not.”

She repeated the answer when asked, “Have your or your lawyers been apprised that your current or former staff are targets of the investigation?”

Clinton said she did nothing wrong by using the personal email account at the State Department.

“There’s much misinformation going on around here,” Clinton continued. “I have said it was not the best choice to use a personal email. It was a mistake.

“However, I am not alone in that. Many people in the government, past and current, on occasion or as a practice, done the same.”

Clinton added, “Nothing I sent was marked ‘classified.’”

Her comments come about a week after the Justice Department granted immunity in exchange for cooperation to former staffer Bryan Pagliano, who helped build Clinton’s server.

FBI Investigating Whether Hillary Clinton Made ‘Materially False” Statements about E-mail

The FBI’s investigation into Hillary Clinton now involves determining whether the former secretary of sate violated a federal statute on providing “materially false” information, The Hill reports.

“The agents involved are under a lot of pressure and are busting a–,” an unidentified intelligence source told Fox, noting the statute can be broadly applied.

The news comes as the FBI reportedly stepped up its investigation earlier this week into Clinton’s use of a private e-mail server.

Republicans have been dogging Clinton over the investigation.

“I think she’s being protected by the Democrats, by the prosecutors and possibly by the FBI,” Donald Trump said Thursday during an interview on Fox Business when asked about the FBI probe.

“What she did is a crime,” Trump added. “She broke the law 100 percent.”

New York Post: Report Whitewashes Hillary Clinton’s Most Serious Violations

Well, whaddya know? Maybe those Hillary Clinton e-mails didn’t include top-secret information, after all.

At least, that’s the conclusion reportedly drawn by Director of National Intelligence James Clapper’s office — overruling the finding of Intelligence Community Inspector General Charles McCullough that two Clinton e-mails (from a sample of just 40) contained highly classified info.

Hmm. Clapper answers to the president — who issued clear marching orders months ago, announcing that Clinton’s server scam was “not a situation in which America’s national security was endangered.”

Oddly, news of Clapper’s finding got leaked to Politico soon after the Washington Free Beacon reported Clinton did indeed, right after taking over at State, acknowledge her responsibility to properly guard classified info — and that “negligent handling” of it could bring criminal penalties.

Until the Beacon broke that news, even the State Department was unclear on whether Clinton ever signed the Sensitive Compartmented Information Nondisclosure Agreement. By so doing, she promised not to put classified info at risk — by, say, storing it on a home-brewed e-mail server.

Which she immediately turned around and did, because she didn’t want a record of her communications available to . . . the government of the United States of America.

That said, Clapper’s ruling whitewashes Clinton’s most serious known violations, and could serve as a pretext for shutting down the FBI’s probe into Clinton’s server use. But it shouldn’t.

Hillary Clinton has handed over her private server as part of an investigation into her using private e-mail during her four-year stint as secretary of state.

The Washington Post reports that Clinton’s attorney also handed over a thumb drive with copies of thousands of e-mails.

Clinton’s spokesman, Nick Merrill, wouldn’t say whether the FBI demanded the devices but emphasized that she is cooperating with authorities.

“She directed her team to give her e-mail server that was used during her tenure as secretary to the Department of Justice, as well as a thumb drive containing copies of her e-mails already provided to the State Department,” Merrill said. “She pledged to cooperate with the government’s security inquiry, and if there are more questions, we will continue to address them.”
