The DEA is cracking down on sexual misconduct by its agents by instituting a one-strike policy for agents who solicit prostitutes, even if they are off duty.

The Washington Times reports the DEA also will release an internal report on employees’ bad actions and the punishments they’ve received.

“Solicitation of prostitution on duty or off duty, whether you’re in a jurisdiction where it is legal or illegal, first time offense — removal,” DEA Administrator Chuck Rosenberg said.

In 2012, the DEA discovered that some of its agents had hired prostitutes in Columbia while preparing for President Obama’s visit.

Law enforcement noticed last year that sex trafficking operations sprang up around World Cannabis Week in Colorado, where marijuana is now legal.

To curb the trafficking, local, state and federal law enforcement teamed up and arrested nine adults for trafficking and 26 adults for prostitution. The team also recovered five children, the FBI announced Tuesday.

The week began April 18 with large-scale events for tourists.

Of those arrested, 40% said they traveled from out of the state.

“Whenever an event draws people from around the world, you will see an increase in sex trafficking,” said FBI Denver Special Agent in Charge Thomas Ravenelle. “The reality is major events will always have some organized criminal activity, including people who facilitate and profit from prostituting adults and children.”

A crackdown on the sex trade at the Super Bowl led to the arrests of more than 12 pimps, 85 johns and 129 prostitutes in the Bay Area.

The Contra Costa Times also reports that seven juveniles were recovered.

The multi-agency crackdown was the result of six moths of preparation before the big game.

“High-profile events, which draw large crowds, have become lucrative opportunities for sex trafficking criminal enterprises,” said FBI Assistant Special Agent in Charge Bertram Fairries.

Federal authorities busted what they called the largest online male-escort service and arrested seven people allegedly linked to the website Rentboy.com, The New York Times reports.

Authorities arrested the site’s chief executive, Jeffrey Hurant, 50, and six current or former employees.

The defendants appeared in Federal District Court in Brooklyn on Tuesday on charges of promoting prostitution.

The criminal complaint alleges that escorts listed their profiles with a list of sexual services and fees.

The site made $10 million in sales since 2010, according to the complaint.

Pimps Grow More Brazen, Luring Children into Prostitution in Groups, Public Events

Pimps appear to be getting more brazen.

KSAT ABC 12 reports that pimps are luring children and young adults into sex work by working in groups and public events.

“They travel the same way that maybe a band would travel: from city to city. They identify a market which would be very lucrative and they travel together to that city. We do know that they target sporting events, large music events — any attraction that would bring a large congregation of men to a certain area,” said FBI Special Agent in Charge Michelle Lee. “They set prices and they work on marketing together. They share intelligence about law enforcement efforts to detect and disrupt they’re activities and they’re becoming very sophisticated.”

The work can be lucrative. The FBI estimates that a pimp will make an average of $67,000 per child.

The brazen efforts by pimps have led to the FBI’s launch of Operation: Cross-country, which empowers authorities to pursue sex traffickers more aggressively.

“Most of the victims are young girls; however, we are seeing a trend for young boys,” Lee said. “We’ve seen victims as young as 9 years old, but we also see a lot who are in their mid-teens and their upper-teens as well.”

A federal investigator in charge of a prostitution scandal involving the Secret Service in 2012 has stepped down after surveillance allegedly caught him with a prostitute in Florida, the New York Daily News reports.

Homeland Security investigator David Nieland resigned Aug. 9, ostensibly for health reasons. But federal officials said Nieland wouldn’t discuss the allegations against him before stepping down.

According to investigators, Nieland was seen in a building that was under surveillance for prostitution. A prostitute eventually identified Nieland as a client.

Nieland was the lead investigator probing the 2012 scandal in which Secret Service agents were accused of bringing back hookers to their hotel rooms in Columbia.

The FBI arrested a county sheriff in Indiana on charges that he paid a prostitute $300 for oral sex and then urged her to hide the evidence, the Courier-Journal reports.

The arrest of Sheriff Danny Rodden comes after he was indicted July 23 on charges of lying to federal agents and counseling the destruction of evidence.

Investigators said Rodden paid for the sex act in a Louisville hotel.

Rodden, 60, also is accused of giving the prostitute a badge and sheriff’s department apparel so she could receive discounts at hotels.

“It is a sad day for Clark County. It is a sad day for all elected and appointed officials who do their best to adhere to the high standards expected of those of us who serve the public,” said U.S. Attorney Joe Hogsett, who announced the charges.
