Jokes and kidding only go so far with the Secret Service.

The Monroe News-Star reports that the Secret Service is investigating an anti-President Obama remark made at a Rick Santorum appearance in Louisiana Friday morning.

The paper reported that while Santorum was at the Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office Rifle Range shooting at a paper target, a woman in the crowd shouted: “Pretend it’s Obama.”

The paper reported that Santorum was wearing protective ear muffs and said he didn’t hear it.

“It’s a very terrible and horrible remark, and I’m glad I didn’t hear it,” he said.

“We are conducting the appropriate investigative steps,” said George Ogilvie, public affairs officer for the Secret Service, according to the paper.

Presidential GOP hopeful Ron Paul is the only candidate left who doesn’t have Secret Service protection, and he has something to say about that.

He thinks it amounts to a “form of welfare,” according to CNN.

“You’re having the taxpayers pay to take care of somebody,” Paul told talk show host Jay Leno on Tuesday night. “And I’m an ordinary citizen, and I think I should pay for my own protection.”

Mitt Romney, Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich have protection.

On the lighter side, Sen. Scott Brown (R-Mass.) said the other day of Santorum’s Secret Service Protection:

“I see that both Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum now have Secret Service with them on the campaign trail. And in Santorum’s case, I think it’s the first time he’s actually ever used protection.”

Publication Reveals GOP Candidates’ Secret Service Names

Now comes the lighter side of the bumpy Republican presidential campaign.

The New York Daily News reports that GQ magazine has revealed the Secret Service code names for candidates Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum.

The paper reported that Romney chose the name “Javelin”. The paper reported that some speculated the name came from a 1960s muscle car made by American Motors, which Romney’s father George headed up.

The paper reported that Santorum picked “Petrus,” which means “rock” in Latin.

It’s too bad the Secret Service doesn’t let candidates pick their opponents’ names. Now that  would be interesting.

Rick Santorum, who has marketed himself as the conservative Republican candidate who can defeat the liberal Barack Obama, is complaining the Obama Justice Department isn’t doing enough to crackdown on pornography.

The Christian Post reports that Santorum had said on his campaign website that President Obama favored pornographers over children.

On CNN on Sunday, he remarked:

“The proof is in the prosecution. In the Bush administration, pornographers were prosecuted much more rigorously than they are … under the Obama administration. … They have not put a priority on prosecuting these cases and in doing so they are exposing children to a tremendous amount of harm, and … putting children at risk as a result of that.”

It took a while.

CBS News reports that presidential hopeful Newt Gingrich will be getting Secret Service protection just like Rick Santorum and Mitt Romney.

The network pointed out that Ron Paul is now the only candidate left who doesn’t have the Secret Service protection.

Gingrich, who has been fading in the race, got a little injenction of hope Tuesday night with a primary victory in his home state of Georgia.

Could it be that presidential hopeful Rick Santorum wants what Mitt Romney already has?

Apparently, so.

ABC and Fox news report that Santorum has sent a letter to the Department of Homeland Security asking for Secret Service Protection, USA Today reports.

Romney is currently the only GOP candidate who has the protection.

Republican Candidates Run Wild with FBI Falsehoods, Associated Press Finds

By Danny Fenster

Republican presidential candidate Michelle Bachman told a group of Republican faithfuls on Oct. 28 that “Obama is allowing terror suspect groups to write the FBI’s terror training manual,” a wildly false statement, according to the Associated Press.

But that didn’t stop other Republican hopefuls from repeating the claims, reports the Associated Press in a story published on the Washington Post website. This past weekend primary candidate Newt Gingrich told a Des Moines, Iowa veterans’ forum that the Obama administration “issued instructions, for example, that in developing training papers on terrorism that no mention should be made of radical Islam.”

The latest, according to AP, was fellow candidate  Rick Santorum’s statement, made to another Des Moine crowd, that Obama “actually ordered all references to Islam and Muslim sanitized out of our national security documents.”

The statement’s stem from FBI efforts to deal with problems that arose when it came to light that an FBI instructor was giving lectures highly critical of Islam. Investigating the matter, the FBI found a small amount of inappropriate material–suggestions that mainstream American Muslims are terrorist sympathizers, for example–and immediately got rid of it, AP reported.
