Some federal investigators are theorizing that three pipe bombs that were IEDs (improvised explosive devices) found at the scene of the shootings in San Bernardino, Calif., may have been left behind to blow up responders, a source familiar with the investigation tells ticklethewire.com. The bombs had detonators, and could have been detonated from another location.

Authorities said the three pipe bombs were connected.

Additionally, 12 more bombs were found at the Relands, Calif., home of Syed Rizwan Farook, 28, and Tashfeen Malik, 27, the two dead suspects, the source said.

Fourteen people were killed and 21 wounded during the shooting rampage at the Inland Regional Center, the scene of a holiday party for county employees.

The source said investigators who have examined the  improvised bombs say they appear to be just like the ones ISIS or al Qaeda have provided instructions for online.

Authorities have still not concluded whether it was a terrorist attack, but the source said it appears more likely than not that it is, and wasn’t work related.

The Los Angeles Times is reporting that Farook was a U.S. citizen, born in Illinois. He was employed by the government agency holding the holiday banquet. The paper reported that co-workers said Farook, a Muslim, had traveled in recent years to the Middle East.

The LA Times reports that San Bernardino Police Chief Jarrod Burguan  said he could not rule out that a personal conflict led to the shooting. During the banquet, “there was some type of dispute,” and Farook left the gathering angrily, the chief said, and he returned with his wife and they opened fire, the paper wrote.

However, the source tells ticklethewire.com tha Farook looked as if he had been planning an attack, and it wasn’t some knee-jerk reaction simply out of anger.
