While saying it appears the New York indictment is politically motivated, ex-Attorney General Bill Barr strongly suggested it would be a disaster if former President Donald Trump testified in trial.
“I’m not his lawyer, generally I think it’s a bad idea to go on the stand,” Barr said Sunday in an interview with Fox News’ Shannon Bream. “And I think it’s a particularly bad idea for Trump because he lacks all self-control, and it would be very difficult to prepare him and keep him testifying in a prudent fashion.”
As for the validity of case, he said:
“It’s the very essence of the abuse of the prosecutive function, which is pursuing a person rather than pursuing a real crime.”
Trump is scheduled to be arraigned at 2:15 p.m. on Tuesday in Manhattan before Judge Juan Merchan. He’s expected to enter a not-guilty plea.
