The FBI and Department of Defense have apologized after raiding the wrong room in a hotel in Boston and detaining a person during a botched training exercise.
The bureau’s agents in the Boston division were helping the U.S. Army Special Operations Command conduct a training exercise around 10 p.m Tuesday “to simulate a situation their personnel might encounter in a deployed environment,” CNN reports.
“Based on inaccurate information, they were mistakenly sent to the wrong room and detained an individual, not the intended role player,” the FBI said.
Military officials apologized.
“First and foremost, we’d like to extend our deepest apologies to the individual who was affected by the training exercise,” USASOC Lt. Col. Mike Burns told CNN.
The botched exercise took place at the Revere Hotel Boston Common.
The hotel guest who was inside the room during the exercise was a Delta Air Lines employee.
