Fred Milanowski, the special agent in charge of the ATF’s Houston Field Division for the past seven years, is retiring at the age of 56, the Houston Chronicle reports.
Milanowski served for 33 years with the ATF after becoming a local police officer in Michigan.
“From the time I was 6 years old, I knew I wanted to be a police officer,” Milanowski told the Houston Chronicle.
During his time with the Houston Field Division, Milanowski expanded the National Integrated Ballistic Information Network (NIBIN).
“It’s developed our crime gun intelligence program more than I could have ever dreamed seven years ago,” Milanowski said.
Milanowski and the Houston Police Department spearhead the ATF’s Crime Gun Strike Force in late 2018, leading to 300 arrests over a two-year period. He also helped the Justice Department and other local agencies create the Organized Crime and Gang Initiative in 2022 that resulted in 39 people being indicted by a federal grand jury last year.
“It’s been a good run, I got zero complaints,” he said. “…ATF has been good to me.”
