House Republicans concluded impeachment hearings against Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas on Thursday and are gearing up to charge him with failing to enforce immigration laws.
During the proceedings, which began a little more than a week ago, Republicans failed to show Mayorkas committed high crimes or misdemeanors and never interviewed him or anyone from the Biden administration to address his conduct, The New York Times reports.
As early as next month, Republicans plan to level charges against Mayorkas.
Mayorkas offered to testify but Republicans wanted him to appear Thursday, a date the secretary declined.
Republicans are accusing Mayorkas of “egregious misconduct and refusal to enforce the law” in connection with immigration.
