Rudy Giuliani and 10 allies of Donald Trump were arraigned Tuesday in Arizona on charges stemming from an alleged scheme to keep Trump in power after he lost the 2020 presidential election.
Giuliani and the others pleaded not guilty to multiple charges, ranging from conspiracy to fraud and forgery, The New York Times reports.
Giuliani was ordered to pay a $10,000 appearance bond after prosecutors said he tried to dodge their attempts to serve him notice of the indictment.
The former New York City mayor is accused of spreading false claims of election fraud in Arizona and pressuring Maricopa County officials and state lawmakers to alter the outcome of the state’s results. The indictment also alleges he urged Republican electors to vote for Trump in December 2020.
The number of people facing charges related to election interference has now reached 50. Similar cases are happening in Georgia and Michigan.
Trump has not been charged in Arizona, where he is listed as “Unindicted Co-conspirator 1.”
State prosecutor Nicholas Klingerman declined to say why Trump wasn’t charged, saying it was “a question for the grand jury – I prefer not to comment on that.”
Giuliani filed for bankruptcy protection in December a court ordered him to pay $148 million in damages to two former Georgia election workers who were swarmed with threats after falsely accusing them of fraud.
