Trump Nemesis, Special Counsel Jack Smith, Resigns

Special Counsel Jack Smith, who Donald Trump had previously referred to as a “moron” and “a mean nasty guy,” has resigned.

Official word of his departure, which came as no surprise, was in a footnote to a court filing Saturday, the Washington Post reports. The filing by government lawyers urged a federal judge in Florida not to extend a court order temporarily blocking the release of the special counsel final report on his findings.

The filing noted that Smith “separated” from the department Friday.

Smith had accomplished a lot during his tenure, filing criminal charges against Trump in federal court in Florida and D.C.

But Trump’s victory in November made it all but impossible for Smith to pursue those cases.
