Authorities are investigating a suspected terrorist attack in Boulder, Colorado, after a man used a makeshift flamethrower to target a pro-Israel demonstration on Sunday, injuring eight people.

The victims, four men and four women aged 52 to 88, were attending “Run for Their Lives,” a weekly global event highlighting hostages taken by Hamas militants in Israel, The New York Times reports. Witnesses said the attacker, identified as 45-year-old Mohamed Sabry Soliman of Colorado Springs, threw an incendiary device into the crowd while shouting “Free Palestine.”

Two victims remain in serious condition at a Denver burn unit, police said. Soliman was arrested and booked on multiple charges, including first-degree murder and using explosives. The FBI is treating the attack as a targeted act of violence but said there’s no immediate evidence linking Soliman to any group.

Video shows Soliman, shirtless and holding two bottles, amid small fires and injured bystanders. Authorities later cordoned off a residential block in Colorado Springs where he lived.

Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser called the attack a likely hate crime.

“It was horrible,” said Lisa Effress, who witnessed the scene while dining nearby.

The investigation is ongoing, with charges expected in the coming days.
