Less than five years after shouting “Kill ‘em!” during the Capitol riot, former FBI agent Jared Wise is now working as a senior adviser at the U.S. Department of Justice.
Newly obtained body camera footage shows Wise, who once served as a supervisory special agent, berating officers during the Jan. 6 insurrection, calling them “Nazis” and “Gestapo,” NPR reports. He also encouraged rioters to attack police, yelling, “Kill ’em! Kill ’em! Get ’em! Get ’em!” as officers were overrun outside the Capitol.
“You guys are disgusting,” Wise shouted in the video, which NPR obtained through a review of court exhibits made public after legal pressure from a media coalition. “I’m former law enforcement. You are the Nazi. You are the Gestapo.”
Wise, who worked for the FBI from 2004 to 2017 and later became a consultant in Oregon, traveled to Washington, D.C., to support Trump on Jan. 6, 2021. Prosecutors said he entered the Capitol through a forced door and left through a broken window about 10 minutes later but remained on the grounds for hours.
In 2023, he was indicted for civil disorder, disorderly conduct, and aiding and abetting an assault on officers. But those charges were dropped following President Trump’s order to end all Jan. 6 prosecutions after returning to office.
A DOJ spokesperson defended Wise’s appointment, saying in a statement, “Jared Wise is a valued member of the Justice Department and we appreciate his contributions to our team.”
