Poll: Most Americans Say Trump Using Justice Department to Target His Enemies

By Steve Neavling

A majority of Americans believe President Donald Trump is using the Justice Department to go after his political opponents, according to a new Reuters/Ipsos poll.

The six-day national survey, which ended Oct. 20, found that 55% of respondents believe Trump is using federal law enforcement for retribution, while 26% disagreed. The rest were unsure or didn’t respond. Among Democrats, 85% agreed Trump is targeting his enemies, compared with 29% of Republicans.

The poll follows Trump’s Sept. 20 Truth Social post urging Attorney General Pam Bondi to prosecute former FBI Director James Comey, Sen. Adam Schiff, and New York Attorney General Letitia James.

“They’re all guilty as hell, but nothing is going to be done,” Trump wrote. “We can’t delay any longer … JUSTICE MUST BE SERVED, NOW!!!”

Each of the three officials named by Trump has since faced legal scrutiny. Comey was indicted Sept. 25 on charges of making false statements and obstruction; Schiff is under investigation for alleged insurance fraud; and James was indicted Oct. 9 on bank fraud and false statement charges, to which she pleaded not guilty Oct. 24.

Bondi, testifying before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Oct. 7, denied political motivations behind the cases.

“President Trump is the most transparent president in American history, and I don’t think he said anything that he hasn’t said for years,” she said.

Vice President JD Vance also defended the prosecutions, saying they are “driven by law and not by politics.”

A Quinnipiac poll released Oct. 22 found most Republicans agree.
