Authorities on Friday announced the arrest of  a Mexican gang leader just south of the Texas border in connection with the March murder of a U.S. consulate employee and her husband in the border area of Juarez, the El Paso Times reported.

Authorities said they arrested Jesus Ernesto Chavez Castillo , head of the Azteca gang, who led hit squads.

Castillo told Mexican authorities that he ordered the hit on the Consulate employee Lesley Enrique Redelfs and her husband Arthur Redelfs because she was providing visas to a rival gang, the paper reported. A third person was also killed that day in the attacks.

But the FBI was skeptical.

“We maintain the initial information,” FBI Special Agent Andrea Simmons told the paper. “We have no indication that anyone who was killed was targeted because of their jobs.”
