A fugitive who shot at FBI agents while he was barricaded in a house his near Pittsburgh was sentenced to 15 years in federal prison Tuesday, the Associated Press reports.
Frank Perez Jr. fired at least 20 shots from two pistols and a 12-gauge shotgun while an FBI SWAT team surrounded his house to take him into custody for a 1999 murder in Indiana, according to the AP.
Perez pleaded guilty in March to assaulting federal agents with a dangerous weapon and using a firearm during a crime of violence.
The defense unsuccessfully urged for leniency, saying Perez lived in a hardscrabble, gang-plagued neighborhood in Chicago. But they were unable to convince U.S. District Judge Nora Barry Fischer, who imposed a sentence five years beyond the minimum.
Indiana authorities said they don’t plan to extradite Perez until he serves his full sentence, the AP reported.
