A former Marine who was placed in involuntary psychiatric care for Facebook posts said he plans to sue the FBI and police over the detainment, the Guardian reports.

Speaking out after his release, Brandon Raub said the detainment sent “an extremely alarming” message to Americans.

Raub prompted concerns after he posted conspiracy theories and controversial song lyrics on Facebook.

The case has sparked a heated debate over freedom of speech and security.

FBI agents and police took Raub into custody Aug. 16 at his home in Chesterfield County, Va.
