A group of former DEA chiefs is renewing a campaign to urge the Obama administration to publicly oppose marijuana-legalization ballot measures in Oregon, Washington and Colorado, the Seattle Times reports.
The group is incensed that the Justice Department has not responded to a Sept. 7 letting requesting a public denouncement of the measures, which would legalize, tax and regulate the sale of marijuana, according to the Seattle Times.
Former DEA officials said states are wrong if they think the measures will raise much-needed tax revenue.
“Quite frankly, no one is going to be reporting and paying taxes to the state if they’re committing a federal felony,” former DEA administrator Rob Bonner said.
Bonner added that the measure would increase drug dependence.
