A 26-year-old Border Agent who died in a car crash in California was recently married and on his way to work without a seat belt Friday, KSWT News 12 reports.

The accident that killed agent Francisco Puga, of the El Centro Sector, remains under investigation.

“We have an idea that most likely we’re not going to come back that day because maybe we’re going to die fighting a criminal sometimes and most of the time we don’t think we’re going to die because of a car accident either on duty or on our way to work,” Agent Amaya told News 12.

Since Puga wasn’t officially on duty at the time of the accident, his family is not entitled to extra compensation, News 12 reported.
