If President Obama gets his way, Jeh C. Johnson will be the next secretary of the Homeland Security Department, the New York Times reports.

Obama plans to soon nominate Johnson, who worked on many of the administration’s national security policies while he was the Defense Department’s general counsel.

Johnson, 56, would replace Janet Napolitano, who resigned in July to lead the University of California system, the New York Times wrote.

The Times reported that Johnson lacks experience with issues such as border security and immigration, but he shares many of the president’s view of the future of U.S. counterterrorism.
